今更ながらですが、ハリーポッターの原書版を読んでいます。 その中で、ハグリッドは独特な「なまり」があるので、元のというか普通の英文に解読するのが大変です。 p51 2から4行目の "A wizard,o'course,"said Hagrid,sitting back down on the sofa,which groaned and sank even lower,"an'a thumpin'good'um,I'd say,once yeh've been trained up a bit. の中の「an'a thumpin'good'um」は普通の英文にするとどうなるのでしょうか？ yehがyouのことであったり、o'やan'がof、and 等、最後の子音が消えてしまう傾向がある、というのは他の文章から分かりましたが、ここだけは省略部分(？)が多くて分かりません。 よろしくお願いします。

ええと、、、ハグリット登場シーンですね。 ハリーが、「え？ 僕魔法使いなの？」と聞いたの対して質問文の英文が出てきて、"A wizard,o'course,"「もちろん魔法使いだとも。」"an'a thumpin'good'um,「それも、とても素晴らしい魔法使いさ」というシーンなので、and a thumping good one以外考えられません。oneはwizardを受けています。 可算名詞で単数なので、aは欠かせません。 and a thumthing good (for) themだったら、メチャクチャな文章になるでしょうね。

いろいろな言語をやっていてかついろいろな国のなまりのある英語をきいているのでおもうのですが・・・ たぶん、and a thumthing good (for) themかなとおもいます。forはただしそもそも発音していない可能性がありますが。もちろん、andのあとのaは本来不要。

英語の方言?略語? ter こんにちは。 私は洋書を読むのが好きなのですが、 Harry Potterの登場人物で、ハグリッドという大男がいますよね。 ハグリッドは、例えばyouをyeh、yourをyer、forをfer、andをan'といった喋り方をするのですが、 terというのはtoの事でしょうか? Yeh'd die of hunger tryin' ter get out, even If yeh did manage ter get yer hands on summat. みたいな感じでちょこちょこ使われているのですが。 お分かりになる方、教えていただけると嬉しいです。
