May I ask you a few questions? という文は日本語にすれば、「いくつか質問をしてもよろしいですか？」になると思いますが、日本語で「いくつか」と言うと一定の数が頭に浮かびますか？英語でも同じで特定の数は定められていませんが、それ程多くない「いくつか」の意味だけです。これが、May I ask you a couple of questions? と言った後に、三問目の質問をしたら、相手に a couple of (二つ) と言いませんでしたか、と訊かれるかもしれません。

increaseは自動詞としても他動詞としても使われるのでしょうか？ 1. The company increased sales by 20% for the past four years. 2. The unenployment rate has been increaseing on account of the economy. 3. With the new equipment, production will be significantly increased. 1は、理解できます。company(S)がsalesが(O)、increaseが(V)の三文型です。 2は、increaseが自動詞で増えるという意味なら、the unenployment rateが(S)、increaseが(V)の一文型と理解できます。 疑問なのは3です。2のように、自動詞でもあるならば、わざわざ受身にする必要はなく、production will increase（生産が増えるだろう）でもよいのではないのでしょうか。 それが不可能なら、その理由をご説明いただけたますでしょうか。 よろしくお願いします。

すみません。質問しはぐっていた文章の訳を一つだけ追加します。 (1)The programme, which among other perks grants 10 years of market exclusivity, has also seen a steady rise in orphan designations over the past few years. で、 which among other perks grants 10 years of market exclusivity はどう訳せばいいのでしょうか。 10年間の間市場を独占できる特別助成金などほかのシステムが存在する中で このプログラムもまた過去数年の間でオーファン指定薬として登録されるものが軒並み上昇してきた。 とやくしましたがここで疑問です。 このperks grants が perks が動詞なのか grants が動詞なのか perks grants という特別手当のもろもろという名詞なのか それで訳の方向性がだいぶ変わってくるので混乱してしまいました。 ご指導お願い申し上げます。
