The band was widely accused of imitating bands such as Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and Nirvana in an attempt to cash in on the scene's burgeoning popularity. Critics also pointed out that Weiland's vocal style at the time was very similar to that of Layne Staley's and Eddie Vedder's. Weiland has rejected such comparisons, however, citing Jim Morrison and David Bowie as more influential on his vocal techniques and sound. Despite negative reviews from critics, Core was extremely successful, eventually being certified 8x platinum by the RIAA. ※ 『Alice in Chains』『Pearl Jam』『Soundgarden』『Nirvana』はバンド名、『Weiland』 『Layne Staley』『Eddie Vedder』『Jim Morrison』『David Bowie』は人物名、『Core』はアルバムのタイトルです。

The song was about a woman who had been murdered. Two of STP's first shows from the Core era were performing two shows on a side stage at Lollapalooza 1992, Scott Weiland said his voice was hoarse and it was two of the worst shows the band ever played. At the shows Robert DeLeo introduced himself to Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder and Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell, both ignored him and shunned him, angering DeLeo. Core exploded by early 1993 when the Grammy winning “Plush” became a mega hit, and with STP's new found fame the tensions with their contemporaries up in Seattle increased. Eddie Vedder told Rolling Stone in 1993, “Beth (Vedder's first wife) and I were part of the scene in San Diego. We knew what was going on, which was not a lot. Those guys are supposedly from there? I have never heard of them.” Vedder's remarks were off the mark, since the full STP lineup featuring Dean DeLeo did not start playing live shows until August 1990, a month before Vedder moved to Seattle. The band were also based in Los Angeles contrary to media reports, while also playing shows in San Diego and Orange County. Vedder also claimed Weiland was “coppin his trip.”

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame have announced the nominees for induction to the 2018 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Rage Against The Machine and Radiohead were nominated in their first year of eligibility, while Stone Temple Pilots were not. Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, Nine Inch Nails, and Jane’s Addiction continued to be snubbed. In Soundgarden’s case it is very surprising since Chris Cornell died in May, and he appeared at the Rock Hall of Fame before. Critics have always hated Stone Temple Pilots, but many have reappraised the band after Scott Weiland’s death in 2015 and the recent 25th anniversary of Core reissue.

While the singer did his trademark shake/slither dance and sang bits through his trusty old megaphone, it was on the night's surprise cover tunes that he seemed to be enjoying himself the most, especially such crowd pleasers as David Bowie's "The Jean Genie," Jane's Addiction's "Mountain Song" and a heavy bass reading of the Doors' "Roadhouse Blues," an audience favorite. ※ 『David Bowie』『Jane's Addiction』『the Doors』はアーティスト名、『The Jean Genie』『Mountain Song』『Roadhouse Blues』は曲名です。

Weiland was born at Kaiser Hospital in San Jose, California, the son of Sharon née Williams and Kent Kline. From his father's side, he was of German descent. At age five his stepfather David Weiland legally adopted him and Scott took his surname. Around that time, Weiland moved to Bainbridge Township, Ohio, where he later attended Kenston High School. He moved back to California as a teenager and attended Edison High School in Huntington Beach and Orange Coast College. Before devoting himself to music full-time, he worked as a paste up artist for the Los Angeles Daily Journal legal newspaper.

During Weiland's formative years his musical influences were very diverse, he was a chameleon from the start. His first musical influence as a child was country music, listening to Hank Williams with his father in his car. He often credits his father for teaching him how to sing. In middle school John Lennon and David Bowie became two of his major influences along with R.E.M. At Edison High Scott met Corey Hickok while playing football, who turned him on to records by The Jam, Echo and the Bunnymen, Stiff Little Fingers, and The Buzzcocks. Scott also began to attend local Orange County punk rock shows seeing bands like Social Distortion during his teen years. Corey played guitar, and he and Scott quickly formed a postpunk band called Awkward Positions. The two eventually formed Soi-Distant. Soi-Distant featured Weiland, Corey Hickok on guitar, bassist Dave Stokes (Scott Tubbs at one point), keyboardist Britt Willits, and drummer Lonnie Tubbs.

Weiland wrote the band's lyrics and performed vocals. In 1992, they released their first album, Core, spawning four hits ("Sex Type Thing", "Wicked Garden", "Creep", and "Plush") and leading them to becoming one of the most influential bands of the grunge movement, the music genre that was started in Seattle in the late 1980s and became rock and roll's central movement in the early-mid 1990s. ※ 『Weiland』は人物名、『Core』はアルバムのタイトル、『Sex Type Thing』『Wicked Garden』『Creep』『Plush』は曲名です。

According to Stone Temple Pilots bassist Robert DeLeo, the band's former lead singer Scott Weiland refused to perform with STP at the 12-12-12 Hurricane Sandy benefit show in New York which featured performances by Paul McCartney & Nirvana, The Who, The Rolling Stones, Eddie Vedder, Bruce Springsteen, Bon Jovi, Eric Clapton, and Billy Joel. DeLeo discussed the 12-12-12 show with Pop-Break, “I'll tell you man, when I was sitting in my home in LA and the whole Hurricane Sandy thing [happened] I turned on the Weather Channel and a guy by the name of Mike Sydal, out of Point Pleasant Beach, which is our hometown, was filming [the damage] and he panned onto the house that was actually my best friend's house. I saw the deck had come off of it, a big hole through the house…it can't hit you any harder than that. So I felt pretty helpless.
