ttp://linguistique.wifeo.com/documents/CORPUSLITTSEM2011F.doc 引き続き、29歳の若さで他界した母親の回想です。 I was too young to have any sense of what she did there. thereは、a textbook company of some sortを指します。 too～to～構文は、御存知ですね？ have a sense of の意味は、辞書にいくつか出ていますが、 確かに、この質問にぴたりとはまる説明はないです。 一番近いのが、have a sense of ＝ have a feeling ofです。 まだ幼かった筆者は、「知る、理解する」のレベルではなく、「感じる」のレベルだったということでしょう。 まだ幼かった私（筆者）は、彼女（筆者の母親）がそこ（教科書会社）でどんな仕事をしていたのか、知るよしもなかった。（又は、感じ取ることもできなかった。） これからも、しばらく母親の回想が続きます。難解です、がんばってください。

それにもかかわらず、私は彼女がそこでなにをしていたかを知るには若すぎた。 という解釈でいいと思います。 have any sence of は I did not have any idea 的な感じでsenceをideaと解釈すればいいのではないでしょうか？ 結果、彼女がそこで何をしていたのか若い私には想像もつかなかった、わからなかった、考えもつかなかった・・・と、その類で理解すればいいのではないかと思います。 分かりにくい質問で申し訳ないです。

こんにちは。 お世話になります。 英語初学者です。 下記に挙げます英文が理解できず、困り果てております。 Emma was happy to entertain their friends, although many of them were closer in age to her father than to her. But on one of these evenings Emma was luckier because one of their neighbours brought a young friend with her. 教えていただきたいのですが、この場合の「with her」のherとは、Emmaを指しているのでしょうか？ それとも、「one of their neighbours」を指しているのでしょうか？ また、もしEmmaを指していた場合、ニュアンスとしては「彼女に合わせるために連れてきた」となるのでしょうか？ どなたか、教えてはいただけないでしょうか？ よろしくお願いいたします。
