Now the power needed for the minimum speed increases more rapidly than the weight of the machine. 最低速度に必要な推力は機体重量の増加よりも早く増加する。 そのため、小型機の64倍の重量を持つ、より大型の航空機が同じ速度で進むには小型機の128倍の推力が必要である。 同じ原理を鳥類に当てはめてみるとその大きさがすぐに限界に達することに気づく。 同一重量あたりワシや鳩以上の力を出せない筋肉を持つ天使はその羽根を動かすのに必要な筋肉を保持するために約4フィートも突き出した胸を必要とし、同時に効率のよい重量にするために脚はほとんど竹馬並みに細くなっていないといけないだろう。
