You went to there too late. You did go to ther too late. どのように違うのか判りやすく説明お願いします。

まず、there に　to は不要です。　 You went there too late. 君はそこに行くのが遅すぎた。 You did go there too late. 君は本当にそこへ行くのが遅すぎた。＝君はそこへ行ったけど、遅すぎたんだよ。強調されて少し責めている感じになります。

さらに聞いてもいいですか？ wentとdidはどちらも過去形ですが、どのようにこの二つの文章を使い分けるのですか？事の強弱なんですかねぇ？

飲みすぎたのでは？の英文で、Did you have too much to drink ?というのがありましたが、どうもしっくり来ません。 Didn't you drink too much?などと作ってしまいます。この場合はtoo～to～構文ではないとは思いますが、もし分かりやすい説明があれば助かります。
