パイレーツオブカリビアン２のワンシーンで・・・
ジャックが"And to what do I owe you the pleasure of your carbuncle?"とウィリアムのお父さんに聞くシーンがありますが、これはどういう意味ですか？

本来の正しい言い方は次の通りです。 “To what do I owe the pleasure of your visit.” 意訳「ようこそ、おいで下さいました／おいで下さって光栄です」 最近ではあまり聞かなくなった言い方ですね。でも私はこの言い回しが好きです。分析すると次の通りです。 “To what”「何に対して」 “do I owe”「私は借りがあるのでしょうか」 “the pleasure of your visit”「貴方の訪問の喜び」 意味：「貴方の訪問はとても喜ばしい事です。こんな幸運な事が起きると云う事は何処かに借りが出来てしまった事になりますが、それは何ですか」 Pirates of the Caribbean では、ジャック流に人をおちょくった言い方に変えられています。“your visit” が “your carbuncle”「皮膚炎」になっています。但し日本語訳するのなら「訪問」と「皮膚炎」を入れ替えるだけでは正しい訳にはなりません。 “To what do I owe the pleasure of your carbuncle?” 意訳：「おいで下さって光栄です、皮膚炎さん」 →「貴方が皮膚炎になって光栄です」と言っているのではありません。 “visit”「訪問」の代わりに “call”「電話」などでも良いですし、現代風に言うのなら “e-mail”, “text”, “tweet” などでも良いです。 注意： “To what do I owe YOU the pleasure ～” になっていますか？普通は “you” とは言いません。 おまけ： 似た様な言い方で次のようなのがあります。 “What have I done to deserve the pleasure of your visit?” 「貴方の訪問のような光栄に値する何を私はしたのでしょうか？」
