omit の解釈ですが、『省く、削除する』という意味で出会うことが多いと思います。この派生の意味で、『怠る、忘れる、無視する』という意味も発生しています。 I stupidly omitted doing it. うっかりそれをすることを忘れていた This word may better be omitted. この言葉は省いた方がいい。 He omitted a greeting. 彼は挨拶を怠った。(無視した） 辞書を見ると第一見出し、第二見出しと単語によっては１５，１６まで解釈がある見出しがあります。しかし、これらは派生的な意味で日本語と照らし合わせて大きなくくりから細分化されています。 I omitted to lock the door. 私はドアを閉めるのを忘れた。 私はドアを閉めるのを無視した。どちらですか 普通は『忘れた』感覚ですよね I was in trouble by omitting my friend's advice. 私は友達の助言を無視して窮地に陥った の方が自然です。 これは日本語だけでなく、英語でも forget なのか ignore なのか選択されるのです。 さて本題ですが any action taken = any action you take any action you omit to take=any action omitted to be taken は受動態か能動態課の違いで意味上はおなじです。 この場合は、any action taken と表していますので、続く部分も受動態でomitted to be taken と文体を統一しています。文体の統一は意味を捉えやすくするためには大変重要なことです。 取られるいかなる行動、また取られることを無視されるいかなる行動となります しかし日本語では受動態の言い回しより能動体の方がしっくりします。 いかなる行為(行動）、または無視する好意(行動）となります

This oil is intended for cleaning the buttered system of carbonaceous and vanish adjournment of gasoline. 上記の文章の中でわからないところは下記。 (1) Battered を何度理解すればよいか、 どんなシステムって言うことなのか。 (2) adjournment 名詞ですが、文面的に意味が不明。 専門的な分野になるので、 英語云々と言う気もするのですが、 私のレベルでは全く予測もできなかったため、 もし分かる方がおられましたらご助言いただきたいです。 宜しくお願い致します。

yumetanosi様 ご返答頂きまして誠にありがとう御座います。 補足まで頂きまして、恐縮の次第で御座います。 お返事がかなり遅れまして大変申し訳御座いませんでした。 （補足のご回答も頂きましたが、私のお返事はこの１つに纏めさせて頂きます。） ＞any action you omit to take=any action omitted to be taken は受動態か能動態課の違いで意味上はおなじです。 「取られることを無視される行動」となるのですね。 今回は特に「omitted to be taken」つまり「取られなかった行動」という伝え方にこの文章を理解しづらい部分があったように思います。 日本語ではこのような文を書く場合、「あなたがメールの内容に基づいて取った全ての行動は～」などという風に「取った全ての行動」しか書かず、「取った全ての行動と取らなかった行動」とは絶対に書かないので、その部分が今回の英文の意味をきっちり訳せなかった原因だと思いました。 しかし、このような日本語では絶対に言わないような伝え方は映画のセリフや英文などを見ていてもたまに出てきたりしていますので、もっと英文に触れてこういう伝え方にも早く慣れていきたいと思います。 「omit」についての詳細なご説明も有難う御座いました。 「omit」という単語は「forget」の意味か「ignore」の意味かを文脈によって判断しなければならない点や、法律に関係する文章中で使用頻度が高い旨はしっかりこの機会に覚えておこうと思います。 今回はせっかくご返答を頂いたのに私のお返事がかなり遅れてしまい申し訳御座いませんでした。 これからももし可能で御座いましたら、また私が英語の質問をさせて頂いた時にはご回答を頂戴したいと思います。 本当に有難う御座いました。 m(_ _)m
