法律の専門家でないので100%確信はありませんが、preferralは一般的には好み、好き嫌いの事ですが、法律用語では申請、提出などといった意味がある様です。従って、Preferal of chargesは何かの申請料、書類の提出料金のようなものでないでしょうか？私も英語にある程度自信があるのですが、初めて聞く表現です。

The place is too small of a piece of land for twenty houses. 一番気になるのはsmallの後のofです.私の勝手な解釈では、以下のような構造だと考えました。 このofは,This picture is (the picture) of the Mt. fuji.と言う場合のofと同様で、smallとofの間に the placeが隠れている.そして全体として、「too＋形容詞＋名詞」の語順の文章が成り立っている.よって文の訳は,「この場所は、20の家々に対しては小さすぎるほどの土地である.」となる. 私はこれ以上の解釈が思いつかないのですが,誤りがあれば忌憚なくご指摘願いたいです. よろしくお願い致します.

The honey from Australian bees is of excellent quality, much better than the stuff the Asian bees produce. 以上の文において、 of excellent qualityの部分が少々理解できません。おそらく of の前に that = the honey が入るため of がこの場合はつけられていると思うのですが、逆に、ofが無くても文としては正しいように感じます。これはqualityという語の特性なのでしょうか？ ofがある場合とない場合で訳は異なりますか？ ご回答、宜しくお願いいたします。

ありがとうございました。 日本語訳は書いてありませんが、説明からすると prefer charges againstが～を告訴する という意味ですので、 preferral of chargesは”嫌疑の告訴”という感じでしょうね
