こんにちは！ 質問１ They're the spitting image of each other. People often mistake them for twins. ●直訳しますと、「彼らは瓜二つだ（＝そっくりだ）。人々は彼らを双子と間違える。」となります。 ですので、「人はしばしば彼らを双子と間違える。(双子ではないけれどもよく似ているから双子と間違えてしまう。)」 の解釈が正しいです。mitake A for B は、「ＡをＢと間違える」ですね？ということは、正体はＢではないということです。 質問２ 妹は、洋服のおさがりが嫌だとよく不平を言っていた。 My sister was often complaining about reach-me-down. ●この過去進行形はとてもいいです。complain about も正しいです。ちょっと惜しかったのは、reach-me-down を裸で置いてしまったことですね。「数えられる名詞は裸で置いておいてはいけない」という鉄則があります。 reach-me-downs と複数形が正しい形です。 「～が嫌だと」という部分にこだわるなら、complain は that 節も取りますので、 My sister would often （＝よく～したものだ、の定型表現）complain that she didn't like to wear reach-me-downs. となるでしょう。でも、10点満点の8点はあるお答えだと思います。 以上、ご参考になれば幸いです！

辞書をみますと、「spitting image」に「生き写し」という意味があるようですね。go urnさんの回答が正解ということになります。もちろん、mistakeの意味もご指摘の通りです。

質問１ 回答は後者のようですね。 Peple often mistake them for twins. 人は彼らが双子であることを間違ちがえる・・・同一人物としてみなす間違いをすると意訳すのでしょう。 質問２ My sister was often complaining about reach-me-down clothes. or My sister used to complain about reach-me-down clothes.
