Until that question was asked it had never occured to me that there was no period of my life that had been devoted to play. （その質問を受けて初めて、私の人生で遊びに夢中になった時期は 全然なかったと言うことがふと頭に浮かんだ。） この英文の解説で 「最後のthatは、periodを先行詞とする関係代名詞である」 と書いてありました。 １）no period of my life that had been devoted to play.は、 「devoted AtoB AをBに捧げる」 のAが省略されて、Aに当たる部分が「period」であると思うのです よって、no period of my life that had been devoted to playを 二文にすると no period of my life period had been devoted to play. でいいでしょうか？？ ２）it had never occured to me that there was no period of my life that had been devoted to play. 二重否定の構文でしょうか？ 参考書に「二重否定は、否定＋否定→肯定の意味関係を表す」 と書いてありました。 すると、「遊びに捧げられた時期は、私の人生において全く存在しなかったという考えが、私には全く起こらなかった」 → （私の人生で遊びに夢中になった時期は 全然なかったと言うことがふと頭に浮かんだ。）答えの訳 となるのでしょうか？？ 少しおかしい感じもするのですが・・ お願いします。<(_ _)>

下記の文章のthat(関係代名詞？)の使い方がよく分かりません。 because he carries with him constantly the insane suspicion that his employer is oppressing, or intending to oppress, him. テキスト訳：なぜなら彼は、雇い主がいつも自分を虐げている、あるいはそういう目的をもって行動しているというばかげた妄想を抱き続けているからなのだ。 ------------ thatの使い方がよく分かりません。 His employer is opressing him.雇い主は彼を虐げている 関係代名詞でthatを前の文とつなげようとした場合、 he carries with him tha his employer is oppressing となると思うのですが、himの後ろにきていません。 he carries with him the insane suspicionの文章を考えた場合、 he carries the insane suspicion with him＝彼は馬鹿げた疑いを持ち続けている。 というように、suspicionをwithの前に持ってきては駄目なのでしょうか？ このようにしたら一番すっきりいくのですが・・・ しかし、よく見るとhimが最後に来ているので、 His employer is opressing himの文章が成り立っている。 ならthatはthe insane suspicionと考えられると思ったのですが、 その場合、分離していた場合の文章は His employer is opressing him the insane suspicion このようになり、 opressの後に名詞(himとsuspicion)が来て、これも文型的におかしい感じがします。 thatがどのように使われているのか？分かりやすく教えてください。 よろしくお願いします。

As is well summarized by Hoyt and Schatten (1997), several meteorological phenomena, such as temperature variations, cloud coverage, frequency of lightning strikes, and droughts, seem to be responding to solar variables over a wide range of time scales such as the 27-day solar rotation period, 11-year activity cycle, 22-year polarity reversal cycle and the other longer quasi-cyclic periods. Although the most straightforward mechanism of the sun–climate connection is the direct heating of the earth by solar radiation, it is unlikely that the entire solar influence on climate can be attributed simply to the variation of TSI (Foukal et al., 2004 and Foukal et al., 2006).
