またまた翻訳で…
いつも本当にお世話になっております。＾▽＾ さて今回、再びペンパルから貰ったメールで分からないところがあり、 「Christmas is a week away from today for me... less than that for you! Yay!」 「It is less than a week away, now!」 「Do you have any final examinations left, or are you done with the semester?」 と途中で書かれており、1つ目と2つ目は多分同じ事を言ってるような気がするのですが「Yay!」というのがよく分からず、それに最後の文章は、まるっきり分かりません＞△＜ 私は学生ではないことを相手は知っているのですが、何か訳しても期末テストとか謎の翻訳になってしまうので、英語が得意な方、助けてください！！

こんにちは。 >私は学生ではないことを相手は知っているのですが、何か訳しても期末テストとか謎の翻訳になってしまうので、英語が得意な方、助けてください！！ >「Do you have any final examinations left, or are you done with the semester?」 最初の条件があるなら、「年末にやらなくちゃいけないことが残っていますか？それとも、もう済ませましたか？」 というのを学生風に、しゃれて言ったのではないかと思います。semester は、今年のことかな？ 全体の雰囲気で受け取るしかありませんね。あまり、個々の字句を杓子定規に受け取っても、話がややこしくなってしまうと思います。そこで、年賀状を書かなくちゃいけないんだよ、などとか書けば、仮に、相手が間違っていたとしても、間違えたことを指摘しないで、話が通りますね。

Yay!は日本語でも言う、「イエーィ！」（やったー！）の意味です。 最後の文は、「もう期末テスト終わった？それとも学期自体が終わって冬休みに入った？」の意味です。

こんにちわ！ Ｙａｙですが、これは単に“イェーイ！”です(^^) 最後の文ですが、これはどう読んでも期末テストのことみたいですよ？（笑） the semester（今学期の）とか言ってるし(^^;) ひょっとしたら誰かと混同しちゃってるとか、勘違いしてるのかも？ “テストなんかそもそもないよ。あたし、学生じゃないって知ってるでしょ(^^)”みたいな軽いノリで返信すればどうでしょう(^^)？

受け取った時期がそれぞればらばらなのかなぁ・・・ それにこれを読む限りではやはり学生だと思われている印象が自分にはぬぐえません。 >Christmas is a week away from today for me... less than that for you! Yay クリスマス(=冬休み？)は俺にとって今日から1週間後だ、君よりも短いぞ。いやっほう！ It is less than a week away, now! 今となっては(クリスマスまで)もう一週間もないよ。 Do you have any final examinations left, or are you done with the semester? 最後のテストは残っているかい？それとももう学期末テストは終わった？
