No.2の者です。訂正と補足を。 > how to make ... をまず how I should/can make ... のように言い換えた上で 言い換えた場合の主語は I ではなく、how she[=Susan] should/could make ... とすべきでした（canも時制の一致でcouldにする）。だれが折り鶴を作りたいかというと、ここではSusanが作りたいわけですから、makeの主語に当たるのはSusanと考えるとわかりやすいでしょう。次の２つの文と見比べてみてください。 [1] Susan wants to know how to make a paper crane. [2] Susan wants to know how she can make a paper crane. これと同様に、質問の文を次のように言い換え、それを「パターン」どおりに直接話法にするわけです。 Susan asked me how she could make a paper crane. ＝Susan said to me, "How can I make a paper crane?" もっとも、英語で「どうやって作るの？」と聞くときは、No.3のruneeさんのおっしゃるように、How do you make ...? のほうが自然でしょうね。ただ、学校文法的にいうと、このyouは「あなた」ではなく「一般の人々」ということになり、話法の書き換えでこれを使わせるのは難しい。 そこで私は、とりあえず不定詞で習う how to ～ の書き換えと話法の書き換えという、基本的な２つの項目を組み合わせて考えてみました。 > イギリス英語を外国人学生用に編集した文法書 Cambridgeから出ている Grammar in Use が使いやすく、わかりやすいと思います。でも、これにしても Understanding & Using English Grammar にしても、日本の学校文法と並行して勉強すると、くい違うところがちょくちょく出てきて混乱するかもですね。

こんばんは、私公立中学校で放課後の自習を支援するアルバイトをしております。 先日、中学３年生の男子生徒に話法の転換で、 My mother said to me "please help me." を転換すると、My mother asked me to help her. になるという話をしたのですが、何故、help herなのかと問われました。日本語に訳すと、「私の母は私に『彼女を』手伝うように頼んだ。」となるので、しっくるくる日本語ではhelp meでは？と聞かれました。 私は、命令文の話法は上記のようになる。と覚えているので、生徒に何と説明すれば良いのか困っています。 英語を教えている身としては恥ずかしい質問ですが、中学３年生にわかりやくす説明する方法をご教授願います。
