- 英語で小説風に書きたいけれどうまくできないという悩みを抱えている人へ。調べた結果見つけた「jostling」という単語を使って文を書く方法を紹介します。
- ロスアンゼルスを舞台にした大都市の中で犯罪がひしめき、二つの組織が血を流し合っている様子を描いた小説を書きたいと思っています。その中で最も恐れられる人物を登場させる手法についてもアドバイスをお願いします。
- 「どっちなんだ！？」という感情を表現する表現方法について教えてください。

小説ふうに書きたいのですが上手く できません。ひしめくというのを調べたら jostlingという単語を発見しました。 でも、文章上、とても歪になってしまい困ってます。 伝わる良い、訳し方教えて下さい。 「犯罪がひしめく眠らない大都市ロスアンゼルス。」 The big city Los Angeles which a crime jostling and which does not sleep. 「LAでは、2大組織が暗躍し、同じ人種が 血と血を流しあっている。」 In LA, the two major organizations maneuver secretly, and the same race sheds blood and blood are shed and it is. 「その中で、もっとも恐れられる人物がいる。」 There is a person feared most in it. 彼の名は○○。 His name is OO. ＿＿＿＿＿＿＿＿＿＿＿＿＿ あと、「どっちなんだ！？」みたいな 言い方ってどう言うでしょうか？

小説の中で使うには面白みのない文章になってしまいましたが^^; There occur heinous crimes frequently in the big sleepless city, Los Angeles. 「眠らない大都市 ロサンゼルスでは、凶悪犯罪が多発している」 In LA, the two major crime organizations maneuver secretly, and people of the same race shed each other's blood. 「LAでは、２大犯罪組織が暗躍し、同じ人種の人々がお互いに血を流している」 後の２つはいいのではないでしょうか。 「どっちなんだ！？」 というのは、"Which is true?" ではダメですか？ ニュアンスがちょっとわかりませんでした。

以下のような訳はどうでしょうか？ （１）Los Angelus -- the sleepless big city, the breeding ground for the whole gamut of crime. （２）In LA, two major mafias of the same race are in bloody rivalry for control of the underworld. 「暗躍し」は無理に訳す必要がないように思えます。 ご参考までに。

回答にならなくて申し訳ないのですが、私の場合 巧くはまらない単語、もう一度違う日本語でいろいろ言い換えて みます。 そこにヒントがある事も多いですね。 そうやっているうちにどんなニュアンスで何を伝えたいのかというのがはっきりしてくる事もあります。

冠詞について教えてください。 「How fast does blood flow in a person's body?」 という文が勉強に使っている参考書の例文にあったのですが、このbloodの前には「the」が付くのではないかと思ってしまいます。 理由としましてはこの「blood」は「あなたの中にも流れている"あの"血」といった感じで聞き手もどんな血であるのか分かるので「the」がつくのでは？と思います。 他の例文でも「Advice from friends is like the weather. Some of it is good, some of it is bad.」 とあるのですがその際は「友人からのアドバイスはあなたも知っている"あの"天気のようだ」というニュアンスから「weather」の前に「the」が付いたんだと認識しております。 そう考えるとやはり「blood」の前には「the」が付くのではないかと思ってしまいます。 どうぞアドバイス願います。 この考えにつきましてご教授願います。

私は英検2級、仏検3級を持っていますが、少し無謀だとは思いつつ 両方の言語を相乗効果的にレベルアップさせようと 英語で書かれたフランス語の教材を使っています。そこで、英語の説明でよく分からない部分が出てきました。 la publicite (often shortened to la pub in everyday speech) translates two notions in English: “advertising” and the broader word “publicity”. Much in vogue is the word la communication, which means “public relations”, but which in its basic form is a synonym for advertising. 最初の文は何の問題もありません。問題は次の文の出だしの“Much in vogue”の部分なんですが、ここでの muchは「大部分」という意味なのでしょうか。そして、in vogueは「流行している」という意味だと思うんですが、muchとどう繋がっているのか分かりません。それから “which in its basic form ”の部分で、これは whichの非限定の関係代名詞の用法と思われますが、関係代名詞に“in its basic form”のような修飾語句が付いたものと解釈していいんでしょうか？ 出来れば 全体の内容を説明してくださると嬉しいです。
