フランス語のpubliciteを英語で説明
私は英検2級、仏検3級を持っていますが、少し無謀だとは思いつつ 両方の言語を相乗効果的にレベルアップさせようと 英語で書かれたフランス語の教材を使っています。そこで、英語の説明でよく分からない部分が出てきました。 la publicite (often shortened to la pub in everyday speech) translates two notions in English: “advertising” and the broader word “publicity”. Much in vogue is the word la communication, which means “public relations”, but which in its basic form is a synonym for advertising. 最初の文は何の問題もありません。問題は次の文の出だしの“Much in vogue”の部分なんですが、ここでの muchは「大部分」という意味なのでしょうか。そして、in vogueは「流行している」という意味だと思うんですが、muchとどう繋がっているのか分かりません。それから “which in its basic form ”の部分で、これは whichの非限定の関係代名詞の用法と思われますが、関係代名詞に“in its basic form”のような修飾語句が付いたものと解釈していいんでしょうか？ 出来れば 全体の内容を説明してくださると嬉しいです。

much in vogue を含む文は倒置です。 ...is much in vogue. much は副詞で、述語である in vogue を修飾しています。「大変（に）」です。 in its basic form は主格たる関係代名詞を修飾しているといっても誰も間違いであるとはいえませんが、述語である is a synonym を修飾しているともいえます。 「フランス語の la publicite は狭義では広告、広義では広報です。いまとても流行っている言葉（おしゃれなことば）に la communication があります。「広報」という意味で使われているようなのですが、実質的には広告と変わりがありません」

英語の質問 関係詞について。 This is the city which I was bone in この関係代名詞の文は、 This is the city in which I was bone に書き換えられるというのを理解しました。 そして、 This is the hospital where my aunt works という文がありました。関係副詞の文です。 これは、 This is the hospital at which my aunt works に書き換えられるというのを理解しました。というかこの構造が関係副詞になるということを理解しました。 両方の文とも、同じような形になってますよね? ここで１つ疑問に思って、上の文の This is the city in which I was bone という文は、the cityが場所を表しているから、in which を whereにして、関係副詞の文に出来るんでしょうか? 関係副詞の書き換えが前置詞プラス関係代名詞になるならば、関係代名詞の前に前置詞を置いた形も関係副詞に出来るのではと思ったからです。 最初の関係代名詞の文はthe city が前置詞の目的語になっていてるのは分かります。 そして、二つ目の文はat the hospital で副詞になるから関係副詞になっているというのも分かりました。 なので２つは違うように見えましたが、どちらも似ていて違いが分からなくなりました。 やっぱりin which を whereにして、関係副詞の文に出来るんでしょうか? 出来ないならば理由を教えてください。 詳しい回答よろしくお願いします。

回答ありがとうございます。 今使っている教材は英語の説明や訳がなくてもフランス語のテキスト文は読めるのですが、英語の説明がピンと来ないことがたまに出てきます。今回の場合も何となく分かるようではっきり理解できなかったので、おかげさまでスッキリしました。大変助かりました。
