私もNO1の方のご意見に１００％賛成です。 Likeは動詞です。 これだけの良いことがあるのに、’何が気に入らないの？気に入らないわけないでしょう。すばらしいでしょう’という意味です。

NHK実践ビジネス英語2007年9月号Lesson 13(1)のIda Fineさんの台詞で、” What's it look like in the hotel industry in Asia?”があります。この文の主語は”What’s it”に見えますが、それに続く動詞は”look like”です。この前の台詞でDavid WuさんがBeijing, Shanghai and Hong Kongの各地で会場探しをしていますから、”What’s it”が複数形なんでしょうか？ David Wu: Ken Bell is canvassing prospective themes with the planning committee. As far as possible, all companies should be able to report data in a comparable format, so users of reports can assess the performance of like with like. という文章を見ていて、 like with like の意味が分かりませんでした。 好きな時に？とも思いましたが、of との関係で考えると、名刺かなとも思ったりします。 いつも使う辞書にも載っていなくて、 もし知っている方がおられましたら、教えていただけると、うれしいです。

what's wrong with you? は 調べた限り “どうかしたの？”とか“何か問題でも？” みたいな意味ですよね？ アメリカの友人からのメールの文の途中に what's wrong with you. と書いてあって 私は何か彼女の気に触ることを言ってしまったかな？と心配しています。 “あなたに関係ないでしょ”的なこと？ メールは以下です。 I don't go to the hospital because our hospitals don't like to treat what's wrong with you. I had a problem with my wrist not long ago and they just sent me home. They wouldn't even take xrays of it. I will be okay though. I just have to be careful of what I eat. このメールの前のやりとりですが “感謝祭だけど、胃が痛くてあまり食べられない。病院には来月18日に行く” というような事が書いてあったので 私は “Why don't you go to hospital early? ” ( どうしてもっと早く病院に行けないの？のつもりで書きました） と返事をしたら上記のようなメールが帰ってきました。 できればメールの英訳も一緒にお願いします。

こんにちは。 Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix [UK, adult版] p.606 上の方の文に関してです。 Susan Bones, whose uncle, aunt and cousins had all died at the hands of one of the ten, said miserably during Herbology that she now had a good idea what it felt like to be Harry. この文の" she now had a good idea what it felt like to be Harry."の部分です。 日本語訳では、"ハリーの気持ちがいまやっとわかった"となっています。 「what it feels like to be」で「～の気持ちがわかる」となると思うのですが、どうしてそういう意味になるのかわかりません、文法的にどういう風に解釈すればよいのでしょうか？ 教えてください。 また、"what do you feel ...."と"How do you fell ..."はどう違うのでしょうか？ どのように使い分ければよいのでしょうか？ 少し、こんがらがっております。 教えてください。よろしくお願いします。

NHK実践ビジネス英語2017年4月号Lesson 2(1)のLidia Graceさんの台詞に、等位接続詞andで結ばれた2つの不定詞句を持つ文が出てきますが、このandは何と何を接続しているのでしょうか？ I'd like you to get to know each other and for you to tell him about any unwritten rules he should know. 「お互いのことを知って、彼が知っておくべきあらゆる暗黙のルールについて、あなたから教えてあげて欲しいのです。」 前者で不定詞to getの意味上の主語は、主節の動詞I'd likeの目的語you (=Shota and Chuck) が兼務していますが、後者の不定詞句to tellは意味上の主語を表すfor you (= Shota) が使われています。前者を省くと、I'd like for you to tell him …という文になりますが、なんとなく変な感じですね。それともI'd like you to get for you to tell him …でしょうか？それでも変ですよね。 どこが間違っているのでしょうか？教えてください。 Lidia Grace: Shota, I'd like you to meet Bill Nissen's replacement, Chuck Salmans. お二人のご説明でニュアンスはよくわかりました。ところで、この表現は主に「話し言葉」なのでしょうか、それとも「書き言葉」なのでしょうか？googole検索では対象が書き言葉なので「書き言葉」で用いられることはほぼ間違いないと思うのですが。
