「足止めをくらった」「引き止めた」くらいでいいと思います。 holdはいろんな意味をもつ単語なので、訳すときに悩みます。 乾杯のときグラスをかかげるときにも使いますし、 元気？といった時にもholdは使います。 プラスの顔とマイナスの顔両方持っている不思議な単語です。 イメージとしてはheld＝そのまま、up＝たったまま という連想で覚えたらいかがでしょう？ ちょっと無理やりですが、、、＾＾
