補足拝見。 私の回答文は、何を言ってるのか分からないところがあるかもしれませんが、何しろ浅学の徒ゆえ、ご容赦を。 1. いいと思います。 2. 私は、「ジェニーは、追い越し車線をトロトロと走る車には頭にくる」 という意味の文だと解しました。 when 節の中に A is B が入ってるのかどうか ・・・ 自信はありませんが、おそらくそうなのでしょう。読んでる時には、そんなことはまるで意識してなかったのですが、そう言われてみるとそんな気がします。 4. > いまいち不定詞（形容詞用法だと思うのですが）thingsの存在が「物事を落ち着かせておくための dos and don’ts 」と捉えてしまうのですが、意訳文と乖離してしまいますが、どう捉えれば適当でしょうか？ちなみにin the water=プールとの解釈でよろしいのですよね！？ to keep things calm が a set of dos and don’ts を形容しているという意味ですか？ And wetiquette is A to keep things calm という形の文ですから、「物事を落ち着かせておくための」 という解釈で問題ないと思います。私は 「ウェチケットはプールの中の秩序を維持するために必要なものだ」 というふうに読みました。すると私も to を 「～ のために」 と取っているようです。 in the water は、話し手としてはプールのことを意識していると判断しました。示された内容を読んだ限りでは、海水浴場は想像できませんでした。それならプールだなという判断です。
