All of a sudden to Brandon and Meredith's surprise, she had delivered a baby in their room.(http://www.lifebuzz.com/meredith/) なぜshe deliveredではいけないのでしょうか？よろしくお願いします

そのページを見ようとすると This page doesn't exist. という表示が出てブランクの画面でしたので、前後関係とか状況とかは分かりませんが、考えられる範囲で回答してみようと思います。 普通に考えると she delivered a baby でもおかしくはないとは思います。 出産というのは、一瞬の出来事という受け止め方は普通はされなくて、ある程度の時間の経過が前提になってるのではないかと思います。実際に新生児が外の空気に触れた時点で 「生まれた」 というわけですが、そこまでの 時間の経過 がある。Cambridge Dictionary なんかを見ると The princess has given birth to a healthy baby boy. という例文がある。完了形になってます。 「子どもを産んだことがある」 という 過去の事実 を表現するのではなく、「出産する」 という行為を表現するについては、完了形と結びつくものなのではあるまいか、という気がします。
