sympathyには2つの意味が有ります。あまり知られていない「共感・同意（agreement)」の意で使われいるとすれば、 共感または同意が欲しいと言う事であれば、辞書を引きなさい。 すれば、「同情」という意味が最初に目に飛び込んでくるでしょう。そうなんです。同情するから同意・共感をするだけでそれ以上は何もなのですよ。それを肝に銘じてください。 かな？ http://kotobank.jp/ejword/sympathy?dic=pej4&oid=SPEJ07131500

1995年の Major Payne という映画における Benson Payne という人物のセリフの一部ですね。 Major Payne: Let's move it, you turds. You'll get no sympathy from me. You want sympathy, look in the dictionary between shit and syphillis. Hustle, hustle, hustle. 「さっさと動け、うすのろ野郎ども。お前らに同情などするつもりはないぞ。同情 (sympathy) ってのは辞書を見りゃ分かるように 糞 (shit) と 梅毒 (syphillis) の間にはさまってるんだ。同情ってのはそんなもんだ。お遊戯じゃねぇんだぞ、こら。さぁ、行け。行け、行け、行け」 上の訳はいい加減な訳ですが、威勢のいい掛け声の一部みたいなもので、口から出まかせに喋ってる （怒鳴ってる） という感じを受けます。 実際に辞書を引いてみると、shit と syphillis の間には他にも単語があるわけですが、そんなことはどうでもいいわけです。糞 だの 梅毒 だのと同じで、同情なんてのは、もらってもありがたくないもんだぞ、というニュアンスを出しているのかもしれません。

いつもお世話になります。<(_ _)> 添削をお願いします。 日本語でもよく使われる単語、例えばビジネス businessは「仕事」という意味以外にも沢山の意味がある、知っていると思っている単語ほど、辞書で確認する事が大切です。 A word, which we borrow and use frequently in Japanese, for example "business" has a lot of meanings in addtion to "work" as in Japanese context. The more familiar you think you are with a word in Japanese, the more important it is for you to look it up in a dictionary.

問題 It's hard to look up words in this new dictionary. Then why don't you use ( ) you were using before? 答え the one 解説 oneは名詞と同様に、関係詞節や修飾語がついて限定されると定冠詞がつく。本問のthe oneはthe dictionaryを表す。 質問(1) the dictionaryを表す代名詞ならthatでもいいのではないでしょうか？（thatの用法：thatは名詞の反復を避ける代名詞で、「the＋単数名詞」を表す。） 問題 Cars imported from other countries are a lot better than ( ) made in the country. 答え those 解説 thoseは「the＋複数名詞」を表す。本問のthoseはthe carsを表す。 質問(2) the carsを表す代名詞ならthe onesでもいいのではないのでしょうか？

友人のメールで一部意味不明です。教えてください。 下記の内容で、色々お世話になったので、多少現金を送ろうかと率直に書いたところ、返事できたメールです。現金お断りの意味はわかったのですが、3行目のIt will take all the fun of it if you make me acceopt cash.がわかりません。ひよっとして、現金を（断ったのに）、受け取ると楽しい（fun)という事で受け取る意思もある？という事？ でも、そうすると最後の文章と矛盾してしまうし・・・。なんかしっくりいきません。よろしく。 Forget it. I would not accept any cash. I told youthat it's not a big deal. Perhaps you can find mesome TV series that Kensaku Morita did in the 70's ifyou look further. It will take all the fun of it if you make me accept cash. For the last time, it willdefinitely make me mad if you should send me anymoney.
