どちらでも間違いとは言い切れません。どちらを使うかは、個人や会社の好みによるでしょう。 例えば私が以前勤めていた翻訳会社のガイドラインでは、使わなくても意味が通じる場合はハイフンを用いないとしていたので、質問者様が挙げた文章もやはりtwo thirds of...とハイフンなしになっていたでしょう。 以上、ご参考までに。

こんばんは。 Two-thirds of the book is outdated and the other one-third of the book remains current. こちらの英文で なぜ前半(1回目)のbookは単数形として扱い、 後半(2回目)のbookは複数形として扱っているのでしょうか？ Two-thirds/one-thirdが複数形/単数形であることに何か関係があるのでしょうか？ 分かる方がいらっしゃいましたら どなたか教えて下さい。 宜しくお願いします。

ありがとうございます。 「三分の二」と「三分の二の」との違いのようです。 「third」に「s」が付いている以上、「thirds」は名詞でしょうが、それに「two-」とハイフンを付けると、どうも、 「形容詞」に見えてきました。 （もっとも会話では区別できませんが） （それともできる？） five-year-old boy では形容詞性から「years」の「s」がとれるのかもしれません。 貴重なご意見に感謝します。
