＞「若いときにがんばって勉強した」 I studies hard when I was young. 「若かった」という過去形 was になる。 studies でなく，studied でした。 あと，saw は「思った」より「わかった」とするつもりでした。

文法的な質問なのですが、次の二つは意味がどのように違うのでしょうか？ A: I talked with my friend for 2 hours. B: I had talked with my friend for 2 hours. 私は同じような意味になるのでは？ と思うのですが、実際のところは良く解りません。 この意味（経験ではなく完了の意）での過去完了は、過去形で代用出来るのでしょうか？ また、会話ではどちらの言い方をする事が多いですか？ よろしくお願いします。

I used to believe courtesy was a thing of the past. Very seldom have I encountered a courteous human being in this modern era of the so called Gen X. Recently, I had to change my thinking, when I came face to face with just such a human being. I had gone to a happening coffee place, with two of my grown up daughters. The place was crowded with the usual loud crowd and we had to climb a steep flight of stairs in order to find an empty table. I had goneのところはなぜ単純過去ではダメなのでしょうか？なぜ過去完了なのでしょうか？よろしくお願いします

"I met my hubby when we were both deployed overseas. The chow hall at our camp had this AMAZING chocolate cake that they served every few weeks. On my birthday he got me a WHOLE chocolate cake, and had somehow found frosting and wrote "Happy Birthday SunShinesForMe". had somehow found frostingのところはなぜ過去完了が使われているのでしょうか？あと、 chow hallとfrostingの意味も教えてください。よろしくお願いします
