＞１．attractedに「採用する」なんて意味ありますか？？ 個人的には見たことありませんが、 tractは、tractorで解るように、基本的に引っ張る、から、 attractは、普通、引きつける・魅了する、 さらに、人やイベントを「引っ張ってくる」感じで、 「招く」「招致する」「誘致する」ような表現はあるので、 「採用する」そのものズバリでＯＫかは解りませんが、 「人材を招く」的な感じでいいんじゃないでしょうか？ ＞２．those以降の文法、解釈のしかたがややこしいです。ここのtoやwhichever等はどう訳せばいいのでしょう。また文法、用法を教えて下さい。 ＞those who were newcomers to whichever field they were in. 普通に複合代名詞としてとって、何の問題もないと思いますが… those who were newcomers to ～ ～へのnewcomerである人々、 whichever field they were in は、 普通の語順、they were in whichever field ですから、 どの分野にいた(採用なら配属されたかも)にせよ、 そこへの新参者(未経験者)であるような人々、 ＞１．far less obviousの訳し方をわかりやすく教えて下さい。 ＞２．farの取り扱いがどうもよくわかりません。意味の取り方を教えて下さい。 これはセットの話で、 less 形容詞・副詞は、劣等比較級という名前で、 比較級・more 形容詞・副詞、形容詞・副詞er の逆、 less happy なら、happier の逆で、もっと不幸せな、です。 なので、less obvious は、もっと明らかな、の逆で、もっと曖昧な、 older などの比較級には、very や so で修飾できず、 強調するなら、much や far というのは知っていますよね。 なので、劣等比較も、much/far で修飾、ということです。

The students were made to pay for the window that they broke という英文があるんですが、訳して見ると 「生徒は壊した窓の代償を払った」 みたいな感じになると思うんですが、 were made to の部分がうまく訳せません。 ～させられる？それとも何かのイディオム？ 「to」が文法的に何の「to」なのかもわかりませんし。 よろしくお願いします。
