What can I say?の意味についての質問です。 We'er going to make a night of it ; we'll get dressed up and have a late dinner after the show. Would you be up for that? What can I say? It would be my first time at the Met ; I could not say no. I'm sold. (一晩たっぷり楽しみましょう、ドレスアップして、講演の後で遅いディナーを食べるの。行く気ある？) (行くも行かないもないよ。僕、メトロポリタンなんて行くの初めてだよ。断るわけないだろ。心は決まってるよ。) 上記の英文は、オペラの公演に誘おうとしているシーンでの会話です。 「What can I say?」が「行くも行かないもないよ。」と訳されているのですが、いまいち「私は何を言えるのだろうか？」という意味からは、そのような訳になるとは思えません。このような訳になる理由を教えていただけないでしょうか？ もう１つ質問がございます。 All they did was update it a little bit. (ほんのちょっと現代版にしてあるだけよ。) 上記に英文でupdateがおかしいと思ったのです。もし動詞ならupdatedでなくていけないし、名詞ならupdate of it とofが必要になる。このupdateは一体何なのでしょうか？

わからないところがいくつかあるので質問させていただきます。ちなみにドラマは「高慢と偏見」です。 Was this not some excuse for incivility if I was uncivil? この文ですが、吹き替えでは「私を不躾とおっしゃるならあなたこそ不躾ではないですか？」でした。 自分なりに訳すと 「もし私が無礼なら、これも無礼の言い訳ではないですか？」になったのですが、これでいいのでしょうか？しっくりきません。 前の文は And I mght wondr why with evident a desire to offend and insult me, you chose to tell me that you liked me against your will, against your reason, and even against your character. です。 Who that knows what his misfortunes have been can help feeling an interest in him? who [that knows what his misfortunes have been] can help feeling interest in him? だと思うのですが、文法的に読解できません。「彼の不幸なできごとが何であるかをしっている誰が関心を持たないでしょうか？」になるのかなと思ったのですが、違う気がします。 文法的にどうなるのか説明をお願いしますm(_ _)m

I just found out that my brother, who I thought was in graduate school studying to be a teacher, is actually working as a prison guard. I'm the only one in the family who knows. When I phoned him to get the details, he told me that he'd quit school after one semester because he never really wanted to be a teacher. He said our parents bullied him into graduate school when he had trouble finding work after his college graduation. Prison guard was the first job he could get. I asked him why he is leading this double life. He said our parents told him that graduate school was "not negotiable." So he figures they can live with their delusions. At family dinners, Mom and Dad ask him about school, and he says, "Fine, but dull." Then they drone on and on about the importance of attending school since he couldn't find a job, and our grandfather makes a point of telling him how easy he has it compared to serving in Korea. とあるお店で見かけた英文です。意味としては「両替はお断りします。」なんですけど，これって，「お釣りは出しません。」って意味に捉えられないのではないのですか？ お店とは何の関係もないし，あまり外人が来そうにもないのですけど，個人的に気になります。辞書にはchageも両替の様な意味もあるようですけど，私は海外ではexchageを使っています。 英語は度胸！なんとか意思の疎通は自信がありますが，正確な文法にまったく自信なしの私の愚問に回答お願いします。

Travel can boost your language learning motivation I went uk last year with my friends. He can’t spe ak English at all. I could speak English badly at that point. We are Japanese and age of 21 at that time. We stayed hostel for less spending money. Young Homeless of age around 30 lived that hostel. I had never seen real homeless until then. We hate him at first because of his appearance. When we were having dinner at kitchen in hostel, he talked us for giving him a food. We give him some meals and take conversations with him. He said that I have dream in becoming famous one day. Apparently he wanted to Hollywood star within three years. He said I’m doing hard work for it. We advised him that you can do it. He is appearing in movie not. He has achieved his dream. I don’t like staying English at that time. as~asの使い方をマスターしたく勉強しています。 ドラマで、下記のセリフがありました。犯罪捜査で、犯人からのスクランブルをかけた脅迫音声をクリアにする作業をその部署のエキスパートに頼んでいるセリフです。 Look, we need as close to the real voice as you can get. 意味はめっちゃわかりやすいのですが、自分でこんなのをしゃべろうとすると、 Look, we need to get(be) as close to the real voice as you can get. とかにしたくなります。 このcloseは品詞はなんですか？ これだけ見るとasなしで考えると形容詞か？とも思うのですが、get close to～ならわかるのですが、need close to~とは考え難く、needの次は名詞closeか？ needを助動詞とするならcloseは動詞か？ならasを置けない・・・とわからなくなりました。かっこいいので、自分もこんなas~asの文を（探偵になりたいわけじゃなくて）しゃべりたいです。教えてください。
