私の理解不足かもしれませんが、お示しの訳がそれほどおかしな訳だとは思えません。 through については、 an infant indicates what it can discriminate through a form of behavior ということだと思います。つまり、「a form of behavior を通して」 の 「通して」 に相当するのが through です。 直訳すれば、「幼児はある行動の型によって、自分が何を識別できるのかということを表現する」 とでもなるでしょうか。

英語の文法問題 She tried to lift the box, ( )impossible. (1)which she found it (2)which she found 正解は(2) itの慣用句表現でfind it...to doとあり、to doの部分が形容詞では駄目だということは分かっているのですが、何故(1)が×で(2)が○なのかが明確に分かりません。 正誤問題でこのような問題がでてきたら自信を持って回答出来ないと思うので明確な理解を得たいと思ってます。 どなたか説明していただけないでしょうか？

whatはそれ自体が名詞節を作っているので、 throuth whichを含めてはいけないと思っていましたが、違うんですか？ というか、through～がなぜ、discriminateの後に来たのかよく理解できてません。 なぜ気づかなかったのか考えたのですが、 前置詞+which（もしくはthe 名詞+前置詞+which)の文章を解釈する時に、 参考書では、「the～whichまでを訳して、それが主語・動詞の目的語・前置詞の目的語・補語のどこに当てはめるか文脈から考える」という記述がしてあるのですが、私はそれがよくわからないんです。 （文脈で考え始めると、どこでも当てはまるような気がします） 前置詞+whichをうまく解釈する、良い方法はないでしょうか？
