When he was away from it he thought of it longingly, as the place which would always provide him with a refuge from the world. ここから下線部が引かれています。 When he was actually inside it, safe and warm and quiet, as he had always wished to be, it irritated him, precisely on account of those same qualities for which he had felt such intense nostalgia. 下線部を和訳せよという問題なのですが、意味はなんとなくわかるのですが、構造がよくわかりません。 特にsafe and warm and quietというくだりです。 どうかご教授下さい。よろしくお願いします。

以下の文章の「I never could see myself that much was the matter with me,except that I had a beastly cold.」という部分がどういう構文になっているのか、どういう意味なのか分かりません。 Many years ago when I was a young man,I was taken very ill-I never could see myself that much was the matter with me,except that I had a beastly cold. But I suppose it was something very serious,for the doctor said that I ought to have come to him a month before, and that if it,whatever it was,had gone on for another week he would not have answered for the consequences. 以上ですが宜しくお願い致します。

One good thing was that the category three emergency had just been declared concluded, the air force KC-135 which caused it, having landed safely. まず「One good thing」は「that以下全体だった」というくくりで いいんですよね？ それで、that節から見ると、the categoryの動詞はconcludedで、 the categoryをthree emegency～declaredで修飾していると 思います。そうすると、the air force以下は どういう役割になるんですか？concludedの目的語がthe air forceで、 having～は動名詞で、このＶingの意味上の主語はthe air force ということですか？ 宜しくお願いします。
