We hear from him. の受身は He is heard from (by us). となります。 hear from でまとめて be heard from 今回は現在完了の否定で He has never been heard from ～ の後，「～以来」で since he left for Alaska 「あった」で met は使わないということです。 met は meet の過去形（あるいは過去分詞）で，「あった」の部分のつもりで出しています。 be caught in ～で「不遇な目にあう」という決まった表現です。 We were caught in a shower ～

短い英文の日本語訳なのですが、合っているか自信がないので添削していただけないでしょうか。 Noha Webster never heard of such words when he was compiling his famous dictionary, but maybe he'd never traveld in Southeast Asia. Think what he could add to his vocabulary if he were around now. In Thailand, he'd learn that ... Noha Websterは自身の（のちに）名高い辞書を編纂していたとき、一度もそのような語を聞かなかったというよりむしろ、彼はもしかしたら一度も東南アジアを旅したことがなかったのかもしれません。もし彼が現在も活躍していたなら自身の辞書にどのような語を付け加えるのだろうかということを考えてみてください。タイでは彼は～ということを知るでしょう... butとaroundの訳出が難しいのですが、famousもどのように訳せばいいのか困っています。 また、全体的に英文の長さの割に日本語が長すぎる気もするのでどのようにすればスッキリするでしょうか。 よろしくお願いします。
