こんにちは。英語の得意な人の中には、他の外国語を学習されている方も少なくないと思います。でも、いくら英語が得意でも普通は日本語で書かれた学習書を使いますよね。中には英語で書かれた教材を使う“ツワモノ”もいらっしゃいますが、ここではそれに関して典型的に古典的な英語の学習をされた方の否定的な意見を紹介します。 “私は、英語があなたの母語ないしそれに近い言語の場合でしてたら、英語を通して別の外国語を学ぶのはそんなに悪くはないと思います。しかしあなたが、１００％日本人でしたら、疑問に思います。第一に、英語で書かれたヨーロッパ語の教科書は、西洋的な文化を背景として書かれており、我々日本人を、鼻から相手にしていないことです。すなわち、彼らにとって、当たり前の事柄は簡略に書かれていたりします。” それではこれを英訳してみました。 I think that it is not so bad to study another foreign language through English if English is your mother language or a similar one. But I doubt it if totally you are a Japanese. First, European textbooks of European langueages interpreted in English are written with the Occidenal culture for the background and they don't take us the Japanese into account from the beginning. That is to say, They just mention briefly the matters common for European people. ここでいくつか疑問点があります。 (1)「それに近い言語」は a similar languageでいいでしょうか？ (2)「相手にする」は和英辞典で調べても分からなかったのですが、ここでは take ～ into accountでいいでしょうか？ (3)最後の「当たり前の」はcommonでいいでしょうか？ その他、お気づきの点があれば、ご指摘ください。 また、この意見についてのコメントも合わせて歓迎いたします。

(1) "英語に似ている言語が母語" ではなく、"英語を母語のように話すことができる" ということなので、"a similar language" では誤解を招くと思います。 (2) いいと思います。 (3) 当たり前の事柄 = the obvious "common" とは異なると思うのですが、この単語を用いるのであれば、語順は "common matters" の方がいいでしょう。 (4) * 最初の文のリダンダンシーが気になります。 * "But" が文頭にあるのが気になります。 * "totally you are a Japanese" では "１００％日本人" の意味を成しません。 * "１００％日本人" は "100% 日本語だけを話す人" を示唆していると思います。 * 多くのネイティブもするのですが、"First," と言われると、聞き手は次があることを期待するので、次がない場合は "First of all," の方がいいです。 * ヨーロッパ語の教科書は英語に翻訳されたものではありません。 * "Occidenal" → "Occidental" 参考までに。。。 I think it is not so bad to study other foreign languages through English if it is, or it is like, your mother tongue. I, however, doubt it if you could only speak Japanese. 「英語ほど世界中で広く使われている言語はありません」という文を No language is spoken as widely as English in the world. と書いてみました。 文法問題で、こういう最上級を表す文の言い換え問題を多く見てみたところ、すべて形容詞しか使っていなかったのですが、widelyという副詞を使ってもいいのでしょうか？ それとこの文で少しでも変なところがあったら教えていただきたいです。 よろしくお願いします

長文で堅苦しい内容になってしまいましたが、添削をお願いします(^-^) あと、これは大学入試用です。 TOPIC starting foreign language education at a very early age is a good idea. I'm for this opinion. There are TWO reasons.First of all,clearly,little children aged up to three can absorb a lot of information at a rate grown-ups cannot.Responsive to sound,they are very efficient learners of new language, so they will be able to acquire two languages such as Japanese and English with little difficulty.This will be a good advance, because they will have more time learning other important subjects,say math,science,histry,and so on. Second,learning foreign language does not only mean you are learning how to read and write,but it also means you are studying other culture.It must be great that you know several culture, because it means you can understand things at global point of view without predudice.Acquiring such perspective is indispensable for people of today.
