observe, moderationという単語について
次の文でお聞きしたいのですが、 His father said that it would behoove him to observe moderation in all things.では、obeserveとmoderationの意味がはっきりしないのです。 observeの意味は、1 to see or notice sb/sth 2to watch sb/sth careflly 3 to make a remarkですがどれもあてはまらい気がしてしまうのです。moderationはavoiding excess, balance, constraintなどと思うのですが。

下記の辞書の１番の意味をつかうと、 to conform his action or practice to moderation で moderation は to be not extreme でいかがでしょう。

I'll call upon professor Brown to do... 「ブラン教授に頼みます。」 call uponをオックスフォード現代英英辞典で調べると 1. to formally invite or ask sb to speak 2. to ask or demand that sb do sth とありました。 2の説明から、上記の例文は I'll ask professor Brown to do... と置き換えても意味的には変わらないと考えていいのでしょうか?

オーストラリアのホストファミリーからのメールに His father is dying. という文がありました。 私の訳では、「危険な状態である」といった感じなのですが、 「亡くなった」っていう表現をする翻訳ソフトもありました。 一体どちらが正しいのでしょうか？ また、危険な状態である、という意味の場合、 I'm very sorry to hear about his father... I hope you can be with him as long as possible. とレスすることは失礼にあたるでしょうか？ よろしくお願いします。

こんばんは。ご回答ありがとうございます。obeyの意味を法律（law）にばかり目が行っていました。わたしの使っている辞書はoxford advaced learnersです。留学したときに現地で買いました。買ったときは嬉しく、枕のそばに置いてねていました。 moderationの意味もよくわかりました。ありがとう。
