まず「一括りに“とても”と訳されています」と解釈するのは少し間違っています。 「とても敬われた」を尊敬に変えたと解釈すべきでしょう。 このあたりは、訳者の日本語表現力にかかわるところなので、あまり一字一句を考えないことです。 さて、入れ替えですが、これは駄目です。 well lovedというと適切に愛されたという意味になり、動物、或いは孤児などが対象になり、指導者には当てはまりません。 すなわち、虐待など受けずに、ちゃんと愛されたという意味だからです。 また a muchはloveには量があると考えることもできるので、たくさん愛されたという風に使えます。 しかし沢山尊敬されたは変ですので、こちらには使えません。 veryは形容詞を強調する言葉ですが、この件では、沢山の愛、あるいは正しく尊敬されたという意味なので、単に強調のveryを使うと意味が変わってしまいます。 英語も日本語とは違う方向で深いので、単にロジック的に置き換えることは考えないほうがいいでしょう。

先ず google 検索で使用頻度を確認します。 1. well-respected 3,980,000 (much-respected 239,000) (very respected 152,000) 2. much-loved 3,580,000 well-loved 1,480,000 (very loved 161,000) 一応どれも使われるが、括弧を付けたものは使用頻度が少なくてあまり使われないことが分かります。well-respected, much-loved が最も使われるのはそれが最も語感がよいということを意味します。 想像する理由ですが、 love (=愛) は "very much" の意味が既に入っていて強い感情ですので、well のように穏やかな(文学的な?)意味の単語をつけると一般的にはやや奇異なのではないか？ ただし＜穏やかに愛する＞意味合いの方が似つかわしい状況では well-loved (well-beloved) が良いと考える。 逆に respect (=尊敬) のような穏やかな感情を形容するには well の方がふさわしい、という感じではないか。 あまり自信はありませんが....
とても愛されたに well を使いたい時は well-beloved となると、昔教わったような気がします。 respected の方はあまり制約が無いように思えますが。 highly respected deeply respected また、very も使えると思います。 very respected person など,どこかでよく見る言葉ではないでしょうか？ 詳しくはないですけど、、、 ご参考程度にしてください。

英訳を頼まれてやってみたのですが、時制の一致のことで考え込んでしまいました。 どなたか教えていただけたら嬉しいです。 内容ですが・・・ 「彼がゆきちゃんを愛していることや、とても心優しい人だというのが良くわかりました。」 というのを英訳してみました。 I felt that he loved Yuki very much and he had a gentle heart. 時制の一致で、後ろの動詞も過去形にしてみたのですすが、「愛している」と「心優しい人だ」というのは現在のことでもあるので、現在完了で書いたほうがいいのでしょうか？ その場合 (1)I felt that he has loved Yuki very much and he has had a gentle heart. (2)I felt that he had loved Yuki very much and he had had a gentle heart. (1)と(2)のどちらが正しいのでしょうか？ よろしくお願い致します。
