人間は（いろいろなものに執着するが）何にも増して、自分の立場、意見にはとりわけ強く固執し、それを変えようとはしないものである。どういう過程をたどり、その考えに至ったのかなどどうでもよいかのようである。いったん自分の立場として取り込んでしまうと、それを自分自身と不可分であるかのようにあつかい、自分への攻撃に対処するがごとく、その立場を常に守ろうとするのである。

littleが先行詞。each of usがcling to(執着する)しがちなものなわけです。 「我々が自分のかんがえとして受け入れた視点として頑固に執着しがちなことはほとんどない。」 [ come by …を手に入れる; …をふと見つける; （損害を）受ける; 通りかかる; …に立寄る.] なので、この場合は偶然その考えを手に入れた、くらいの意味でしょう。 「それはどうやって手に入れたかは関係ないようだ」 「いったん自分のものとなれば、われわれはそれを個人の属性として扱う、われわれの一部になる何か、そして攻撃からわれわれ自身を守るように確実に守らなくては成らないものとして扱うのだ」 わかりやすいように、ちょっとごつごつした訳にしましたが（意訳すると文法的にはわかりにくいので）、要は「曲げられない信念は、なかなか見つからない代わりに、一旦見つけたらそれを守らなくてはならない」というような文章です。
