はじめまして。 ご質問１： ＜なぜ各動詞に【ing】が付くかわかりません。＞ 動詞を名詞化するためです。 １．busy (in) ～ingで「～することに忙しい」→「～するのに忙しい」というイディオムになります。 ２．この「動詞＋～ing」は動名詞になります。つまり、動詞にingをつけることによって、動詞を名詞化しているのです。 例： I like swimming. 「泳ぐことが好き」→「水泳が好き」 ３．従って、例文のworking、caring、traveling、playingは全て動名詞で、訳も動詞の意味が薄れ、名詞で訳されます。 例： 「仕事、家族の世話、旅行、運動、その他の娯楽で忙しい」 ご質問２： ＜現在も進行している状況だからなんでしょうか??＞ １．～ingは「進行」の用法だけではありません。 ２．上記のように、動詞を名詞化する用法もあります。 ３．また、～ingには、「付帯状況」と呼ばれる現在分詞の働きをする用法があります。これは、主文の状況を説明的に補足する用法で、「～しながら」「～して」といった、同時の状況を説明する用法です。 例： I answered the question laughing. 「笑いながら質問に答えた」 この～ingは「進行」ではありません。あくまで、「笑いながら」という状況を「追加説明」して、動詞を修飾している「付帯状況」という用法です。 現在分詞の～ingの用法については、説明事項が多すぎてここでは書ききれませんので、とりあえずここで説明した部分から、少しづつ理解されていって下さい。 以上ご参考までに。

When a friend cries in the course of intense conversation, we know among other things that a serious demand is being placed upon our attention: tears demand a reaction. 上の文で、後半の we know among other things that a serious demand is being placed upon の文法的・語彙的なものがイマイチ分かりません。 「（泣いている人からは）マジメな要求が発せられているのだが、それはリアクションを取ることだ。」 というような大雑把な意味は分かるのですが、 １、「among other things」という言葉があることでどういった意味とニュアンスになるのか。そして何を指しているのか。 ２、be placed upon の正確な意味 の二つがはっきりと分かりません。 お願いします。

We are working hard to redeploy as many as employees as possible at other locations across the company. 上記の文章の、other locations across the companyの訳仕方がよくわかりません。 ”会社中の他の場所”ってことは、”会社中の他の部署”と訳すべきなのでしょうか？ アドバイスお願いします。

When we look at something , the brain deals with many things. This our brain does so quickly that we are unaware that it is doing something important. という文で、 私は This our brain を「この私たちの脳」と主語として読んだのですが、参考書を見ると、 『「この私たちの脳」を英語にしますと、this brain of ours となります。ですからthis our brainを「この私たちの脳」と読むことは絶対に出来ません。』 と書いてありました。 何か文法上のルールがあるからなのか、あるいは"そう言わないのだ"と丸暗記しなければならないのでしょうか?
