主語をyouにするなら、(2)以外はすべて “You are stronger than him.”と言い換えられます。(2)には“You are as strong as him.”の可能性もあります。 (3)のような形は劣等比較級と言いますが、英語ではあまり好まれないようです。しかし、(3)の形を基準にして(1)や(4)に言い換えられないケースを見てみましょう。 先ず、(1)はあくまで否定文ですね。そして、４つの文の動詞は全部beですよね。それでは、「彼はあなたより強くないかもしれない。」はどう表現するでしょうか？ “He may not be so strong as you.”とは言えませんよね。また、「彼はあなたよりずっと強くない。」というように強調する場合も“He is not much so strong as you.”とは言えませんよね。更に 「彼はあなたより強くなくなった。」というのも“He has't become so strong as you.”ではありませんよね。これらは(3)の文を元に簡単に表せますよね。でも、こういう場合は(4)の文を元に反対の形容詞を使う手段もあります。 それでは、(4)に書き換えられない場合です。反対の形容詞がない場合や、あっても意味がズレてしまう場合があります。 例えば srtongをcoolに変えてみましょう。そうすると、「彼はあなたよりクールではない。」というのはどう言いますか？この場合の coolの反意語はwarmではありませんよね。確かに warmは人にも使えるんですがね。もっとも、温度に関して言う場合も less coolを簡単にwarmerに言い換えられるものでもないですけどね。

否定文 less He was less than enomoured of the musicがあります。 thanのうしろに省略されているのは 何ですか？ thanの後ろは完全な文が来るので、he was が省略されていると思います。 less thanで lessは形容詞ではなく辞書では副詞とあります。 しかし、be動詞なので 後ろにくるのは普通は形容詞ですよね。 less than enomoured とは どのようによめばいいのでしょうか？。 以前ほど音楽に夢中にならなくなった、という意味だと推測していますが。 less は adverb : to a smaller degree: not so much. enomoured of ..adj : liking sth a lot. 辞書を調べてもネットで調べても分からなかったので基本的な質問だと思いますが、質問をさせて いただきました。

質問させていただきます。 比較を勉強していて、ふと思ったことなのですが、 He is less tall than Jim. =He is not as tall as Jim. この書き換えは可能ですよね。 それでは、以下の文と意味はあまり変わらないのでは、と思ってしまいました。 He is shorter than Jim. 同意文と考えてよいのでしょうか？

こんにちは。タイトルの文を英訳してみました。 Altough the French pronunciation seems to be difficult than the English one, actually it is not so difficult as English. 問題点が二つあります。一つは、代名詞の受け方ですが、itやoneの使い方はこれでいいんでしょうか？ 二つ目は “it is not so difficult as English.”の部分は次のように言い換えることができると思いますが、ニュアンスがどう違ってくるでしょうか？ (1)it is less difficult than English (2)it is easier than English

as～asの文は～の部分に入るのは形容詞か副詞と思うのですが、形容詞とともにであれば名詞もいいんですか？ He has as many books as she. また、最上級ではよく見かけるのですが He is the most famous singer in Japan . 、比較級でも後に名詞が来る場合はありますか？ 例えば、 He is a more fsmous singer than she . He has more money than I . よろしくお願いします。
