ケイト・ブッシュですよね？ まず直訳すると 「彼は知ることはなかった。 狐の目前にいる鳥であることを。 誰も自己満足では戦争に勝てない（自分で勝った気になっても本当に勝利しているわけではない）」 He couldn't win the war with ego. もしこの歌詞がケイト・ブッシュの曲だとしたら、彼女は歌詞にいろんな意味や皮肉、裏に隠れた見えない世界を、わざと混めています。 ２行目ですが、chickenは単語の意味として（特に米語）「軍隊での不必要な義務や、つまらない仕事を担当する兵士」も指し、それに掛けていると思います。狐は「敵」や「前線」のことを指しているのでしょう。つまり前線に出ない、配属されない兵士なんだよ、ということを言いたいのだと思います。 ついでにかくと、その歌詞の少し前にある Tears o'er a tin box. は、⇒ Tears over a tin box. のことです。 余談ですが、ケイト・ブッシュは、デビューからこのアルバムの頃までは神が光臨したような唄い方をしていましたが、この10年くらいに出したアルバムはその輝きが消えてしまいました。 現在同じような神々しい唄い方をするアーティストに、サラ・ブライトマン（Sarah Brightman）がいます。

podcastのスクリプトの一部です。 一部だけでは、意味がわからないかもしれませんので、少々長めにコピーいたします。 タバコの銘柄にはよく知られたiconがありますが、Camelというタバコのicon "Joe Camel"について書かれたものです。 Joe Camel was a cartoon. He was a cartoon “camel,” an animal, who was drawn with something over his head that we would call a “bandana,” and he had sunglasses, and, of course, he was smoking a cigarette. The idea was that Joe Camel was cool, that he was popular, that people accepted him. この中で二つ目のセンテンスに who was drawn with something over his head that we would call a “bandana,” とあります。 who was drawn with something は、「何かに(で？)描かれた(マンガのらくだ)」 という意味だと思うのですが、 その後の over his head that 以下の意味がよくわかりません。 「バンダナをした、何かに描かれたマンガのらくだ」ということでしょうか。 ちなみに、Joe Camelの画像をググッたのですが、バンダナを着けている絵は無かったです。 よろしくお願いいたします。
