Because of Sunday, the shop was closed. とネイティヴ・スピーカーに言えば、おそらく言いたい事は分かってくれるでしょう。ですが、やはり不自然な表現です。「日曜日だったので」と言いたいなら、because it was Sunday が自然ですね。 Because of Sunday と言うと、「日曜日という日のために」「日曜日という日のせいで」というニュアンスになります。Because of Sundays, we can get some rest every week. （日曜があるので、毎週休む事は出来る）The package was sent on Friday, but because of Sunday, the delivery took 3 days instead of 2. （包みは金曜に送られたのだが、日曜があったために配達には二日ではなく三日かかった）等という表現が出来ますが、それでもあまり自然な英語ではありませんね。同じ事をもっと自然な表現で言う事はいくらでも出来ます。 通じるか、と言えば通じるでしょうが、ネイティヴは Because of Sunday の様な表現はまずしない、と理解していいと思います。

高校文法ですが、 There are a lot of people waiting for their turn. There was some tea left in the pot. それぞれ、A lot of people are waiting for their turn. Some tea was left in the pot. とほぼ同じ意味とされていますが、その使い分けがよくわかりません。 何冊かの参考書を読み比べましたが、 Thereで始まる文は、唐突な感じを避ける事ができる。 Thereで始まる文は、主語を強調している。 という解説のみで、日本語を訳し分ける必要はないらしいのですが、 あえてその違いがわかるように訳すとしたら、どんな訳が考えられるでしょう。また、使われる文脈、状況の違いなどを教えていただけないでしょうか。
