just enough time の意味は

会話の本に He has just enough time to fresh up before going downstairs to the restaurant. とあり、これを訳して、 彼は急いで身なりを整え,（宿泊しているホテルの）レストランに降りて行きます。 just enough time がなぜ”急いで”となるのでしょうか。　has enough time ですから”ゆっくりと”とゆう意味にはならないのですか。　教えて下さい。

アメリカに36年住んでいる者です。　私なりに書かせてくださいね。 まず、 ＞He has just enough time to fresh up before going downstairs to the restaurant. とあり、これを訳して、彼は急いで身なりを整え,（宿泊しているホテルの）レストランに降りて行きます。 はおかしな訳であるし日本語的ではないですね。「降りていきます」はもちろん日本語ですが、何を言っているのでしょうか。　変な日本語訳になると言うことは使える英語の文章ではなく英語を教えるための文章であるからちょっとおかしくもいいと言うことでしょうか。 そうではないですね。　個の文章は使える文章です。　個の文章持つ意味を知ればわかると思います。 訳としては、 He has 彼には～がある just enough time to やっと～出来るだけの時間 fresh up 身なりを直したり(女性の場合はお化粧直しをしたり)する before going downstairs to the restaurant.　下のレストランへ行く前に と言うことになり、彼には下のレストランへ行く前に身なりを直すのにやっとの時間がある・やっとの時間しかない、と言う意味になります。　つまり、個の文章は降りていくことよりも直す時間しかないと言うことを言いたいわけですね。 have just enough time to動詞 やっと～出来るだけの時間がある、つまり、やっと～出来るだけの時間しかない、と言うことになります。 と言う慣用句みたいに覚えてしまって、自分にあった文章を作り上げることでこの言い方を使えるようになると思います、 I'm so busy today. I have just enough time to go to bathroom!! 今日は本当に忙しいよ。　やっとトイレにいけるだけの時間しかない I was so busy yesterday. I had just enough time to go to bathroom!! 昨日は忙しかったよ。　トイレにやっといけるくらいの時間しかなかったんだ。 と言うように使えそうな表現を作っちゃうわけですね。 さて、この「急いで」と言うことですが、時間がないから急ぐと言うフィーリングが入ってくるわけです。　つまり、上に書いた訳を基にして書き直すと、下のレストランへ行く前に身なりを直すのにやっとの時間しかないので急ぐ必要がある、と訳してもいいと思います。　 下のレストランへ行く前にあまり時間がないので急いで身なりを直さなくてはならない。と意訳することも出来ると思います。 これでいかがでしょうか。　分かりにくい点がありましたら、補足質問してください。

「just enough time to ～」で 「なんとか～するだけの時間はある」とか 「～する時間がぎりぎりある」という連語・慣用句です。 従って、訳としては 「彼は、階下のレストランに（下りて）行く前に、なんとか身なりを整えるだけの時間はある」（直訳） 　↓ 「階下のレストランに（下りて）行くまでに、なんとか身なりを整えるだけの時間が彼にはある」（意訳） といったところでしょうか。

#1です。辞書をみると just に「かろうじて」のような意味があります。「かろうじて十分」ということで，少しの余裕もないということになります。

just enough time to fresh up で「身なりを整えるのにちょうど十分な時間」という意味です。「ちょうど十分」ということは，少しでも時間を無駄に使うと間に合わなくなる，ということで，「急いで」ということではないでしょうか。
