The analysis of his business plan showed some weaknesses in the sales forecasts, which might cause trouble later. 上記の文章中の "forecasts" は 複数形でなければならないのでしょうか。 "forecast" としたら誤りですか。 ニュース検索すると 436 for sales-forecasts . 888 for sales-forecast . むしろ sales-forecast が多いかとも思うのですが。 教えて下さい。

Googleでforecastとforecastsを排他的にして検索すると、 "sales forecast" : 46,900件 "sales forecasts": 26,500件 で、確かに単数形が多いです。 しかし、これだけヒット数があれば、どちらでも構わないレベルと考えられます。ですので、複数か単数かは、意味・文脈次第です。 お示しの文だけなら、どちらでもＯＫ、あるいは、どちらとも決められないというのが無難な解釈かと思います。

複数形とかの問題ではありません。 意味が違うだけです。 複数の販売計画のシミュレーションがあったとすると、これは一つ以上の予想なので複数形で言います。 一方、販売予測が一つしかない場合には単数扱い。 事業の運用なら一般的に一つですよね。複数の販売予測・計画を持つ事はあまり考えられませんので。 但し、ビジネスプランを検証するのであれば、best case / worst case scenarioなどと複数のforecastを想定する事が少なくないですよね。だからこのような場合にはforecastsとなるわけです。 これでお分かり頂けましたか？
