the system は「測定系」ということでしょう． 何かのサンプルを低温にして dI/dV を磁場を変えながら測定しているのですが， その測定系で実現できる温度が 0.4K ということです． 0.4K が最低到達温度というと，液体ヘリウム３を使って冷却していると思われます (希釈冷凍ではなさそう)． 超伝導体のジョセフソン効果関連の実験かな？ 他にももちろん可能性はありますけれど．

これは、何かの実験装置について書かれた論文からの抜粋でしょうか。 そして、その実験装置において、いかにして計測結果を得たかを説明している部分でしょうか。 もしそうであれば、「the system」は、その実験装置において観測された現象が起こった「系」のことを言っているのではないかと想像します。 全体がわからないので、これ以上のことはなんとも言えません。

その一文だけでは、何をさしているのか明確にならないのではないかと思います。「"the" system」ですから、なにかその文の前に言及されているものがあるのではないでしょうか。

すみませんでした。 さっきの文の前は Measurements were made of dI/dV as a function of V at a series of about ten uniformly spaced values of the magnetic field H up to the critical field. です。

E-mailフレンドが両親について書いてくれたので、 「あなたの両親について教えてくれてありがとう」というようなことを 書きたかったので 「Thank you for you told me about your parents」 という文章を作りましたが、ちょっと自信がなかったので翻訳サイトで 訳したところ 「あなたがあなたの両親に関して私に話したので、ありがとうございます。」 と変換されました。何だかおかしいのかな、と逆に日本語を入れて英訳 してみたところ 「Thank you for speaking of your parents」 となりました。それをさらに和訳してみると 「あなたの両親について話してくださってありがとうございます」 と私の書きたかった文章になりました。 私が作った文章が正しいのか、というのも気になりますが、和訳した文 章に「of」が使われてるのが気になりました。 辞書では「of」について「関連はaboutに取って代わられつつあり」といったことが書いてありましたが、具体的にどう違うか分かりません でした。 具体的にどういう時は「of」を使い、どういう時に「about」を 使うのでしょうか。 どうぞよろしくお願いします。

有機物の薄膜についての論文を読んでいるのですが、共蒸着（co-evaporation）というものが出てきて、調べてみてもよく意味がわかりません。すみませんが、ご存じの方、教えてください。 TTF-(OH)TEMPO and TCNQ were heated at evaporation tenperatures of 443 and 523 K , respectively.Co-evaporation was carried out on KBr(001) substrates (substrate temperature: 223, 293, or 333K) for 90 min. The films thus obtained were then annealed at K for 240 min. という部分です。

「彼らは10時頃どこにいましたか」の英訳が参考書では Where were they at about ten? となっているのですが、 自分では何となく Where were they about at ten? の方が正しい気がするのです。 根拠は無いので単なる感覚的なものなのですが、上記の2つのうちどちらが正しいのか教えてください。 くだらない質問ですみません。

安河内哲也氏の問題集の文です。 There was an audience of no less than 4,000 at the concert yesterday. There was an audience of 40 people at most his lecture. audienceは単数扱いにも複数扱いにもなる集合名詞ですが、上記の文の場合はThere was ではなくThere wereになるのではないのですか？？ 4000 や 40人は複数なので単純にwas ではなく were ではないかと思うのですが・・・・ 私の詰めが甘いのかとも思います。 よろしくお願いします。
