みなさんのご回答、大いに楽しませていただき、久しぶりに「ボク、笑っちゃいました」。ということは、私などの出る幕ではありませんが、「参加することに意義がある」と思い、しゃしゃり出ました。 あるアメリカ人旅行者が日本のすし屋（のカウンター）で、指さしながらたらふく食べた後、お代を払おうと思って “How much?”…。ややあって、すし屋のあるじ、「へい、ハマチ、お待ち」。英語がまずかったのだと思った客人、今度はたどたどしい日本語で「いくら？」。ややあって、すし屋のあるじ、「へい、イクラ、お待ち」。 このアメリカの御仁、今度はスペインのバル（のカウンター）で、指さしながらたらふく食べた後、お代を払おうとして、あの苦い経験を思い出したので、（英西）辞典を調べる。 “《How = Cómo、much = mucho》, oh, I see!” そして、大声で言った。‟Como mucho?”（何と、スペイン語でこれは、“Do I eat much?”の意）。するとカウンター越しにウェーターの声が返ってきた。‟Sí, sí, usted come mucho!”（”Yes, yes, you eat much!”）。

I have to make a list of what's in these boxes. 「これらの箱の中味をリストアップしなければならない。」 上記英文の what's は、what is の短縮形なのでしょうか？ もし、そうでしたら、of の後にくるのは名詞か名詞句が来るべきたと思うので、what is in these boxes の名詞節が来るのは変ですよね。 what's は何の短縮なのか。文構造を教えていただけないでしょうか。 よろしくお願いします。

外国人のメル友にジョークを教えるといわれ、その意味が何故か解るか？と言われました。 これはいわゆるジョークなのでしょうか？ 笑えるエピソード？うーん、さっぱり解りません。 意味が解る方、教えてください！よろしくお願いします。 a woman and a man stand face to face inside the train. 某SNSの投稿で以下のような英文が投稿されていました。 直訳自体は簡単な文章なんで問題ないのですが なにが面白いのかよくわかりません。 わかる方教えてください。Bubblesになにか意味があるのでしょうか？ （なおTOEICで８００以上取ったことがあります） -------------------- There were these 3 frogs in a pond when all of a sudden the police came and arrested them all. When they went to court the Judge asked the 1st frog "What's ur name?". The frog u replied "Frog". The Judge asked "What were u arrested 4?" "I was just blowing bubbles in the pond" Frog replied.
