これで「20年待った」という意味になりますか？ これだけではなりませんが We had waited for 20 years だったら「我々は20年待った」になりますし We had it for 20 years と目的語があれば「それは20年持った」でしょう。

こんにちは、いつもお世話になります。 現在、William Harrington著の刑事コロンボ THE HOOVER FILESを読んでいます。 その中で、'd of hadが何の省略なのか？ 意味は何なのか？ 分からない文がありました。 背景：元犯罪者のもとを元FBIがたずねる。 元犯罪者はビックリするが、７０代の爺さんをみて、「考えてみりゃ、警察として訪ねて来たんじゃないよね？、、、と言うセリフの一部。 ～～～～～～～～～～～～～～上記の本より引用～～～～～～～～～～ Sure. You'd of had to retire years ago. I mean, while I was still in the slammer. ～～～～～～～～～～～～～～～～～～～～～～～～～～～～～～～～ 大体意味としては、「そうに違いない。 あんたは何年も前に引退した筈だ。 つまり、俺がまだ刑務所にいる間に。」だと思うんですが、You'd of hadの部分は完全に勘です。 'dは、wouldかhadだと思うんですが、would of hadも、had of hadも、そんな言い回し聞いたこともありません。 一体何なんでしょうか？ よろしくお願い致します。

以前にこういう質問をしました。（多少内容が変わっていたらごめんなさい。でも質問の格となる部分は同じです） The publishing company published the book which the author had written in her younger days. （質問）in her younger daysというのは「過去形」でしか使えないはずなのに、なぜ「had written」でもＯＫなのでしょうか？さらに、この文章ではwroteにしてはいけませんか？ When I visited my hometown this summer, I found the city diffferent from what it had been ten years ago. （さらなる質問）ten years agoというのは明らかに「過去形」を表すのに、なぜ「had been」が使われているのか不思議でなりません。（誤植ですか？）ここは本来、ten years agoではなくten years beforeなら自分も納得がいくのですが。
