In a number of in vitro studies spectral differences have been reported between neoplastic tissue and normal tissue of the brain, breast, colon, larynx, and cervix (Mizuno et al. 1994 Frank et al. 1995; Mahadevan-Jansen et al. 1998; Stone et al. 2000).
