よろしくお願いします
My son is almost 4 years old. For Halloween, he asked to dress as a female character from a popular children’s show. It’s the only thing he requested to be, so we purchased the costume. requested to beのto beはなくても良さそうにみえるのですが、なぜ必要なのでしょうか？よろしくお願いします

主語がitであればto beは必要。to beを省くこともできますがその場合主語はthatであるべきと思います。 itは人称代名詞で a female character from a popular children’s show を表します。すると It’s the only thing he requested. だと「人気の子供向けショーの女性のキャラクターだけが彼の希望だった。」と意味が良くわからなくなります。 thatにすると指示代名詞で he asked to dress as a female character from a popular children’s show 「彼は人気に子供向けショーのキャラクターに扮装することを頼んだ」全体を表しそれが唯一彼が頼んだ事となります。 つまりto beがあるないで代名詞がかわってthe thingの意味も変わります。文としてはオリジナルの文(to be付き)が言っていることがクリアで好ましいです。

＞requested to beのto beはなくても良さそうにみえるのですが、なぜ必要なのでしょうか？ ⇒はい、おっしゃるようになくてもいいと思います。to beは、「あるべく」ですから、これがあることによって、「たっての（お願い）」といったニュアンスが添えられるものと考えます。

英文法に関する質問です。 It displayed an image that he had requested be sent to her. という英文があり、この「be sent」の部分の文法が分かりません。 request を S＋V＋O＋to の形と読むと to が抜けていることになります。 （また、この場合に物がOになるのは不自然だと思います。） もう１つの解釈としては、that の関係代名詞の後の he had requested が挿入で、 It displayed an image that (he had requested) be sent to her. ということを考えているのですが、この場合は be ではなく was になると思います。 どなたか回答お願いします。

My husband of over 30 years is a great person, successful and well-educated. I love him dearly except for one annoying thing. He draws on people's photos in magazines and newspapers. Almost daily, for a few minutes after breakfast or dinner, he'll draw mustaches, knocked-out teeth, facial hair and blemishes on the faces of people in the photos. Deal kindly but firmly with all your classmate ; you will find it the policy which wears best. 上記の英文で、the man who requires you to do so is dearly purchased at a sacrifice. の意味がよく解りません。 以下は私の理解の道筋なんですが、どこが間違っていますか？ 辞書等で Mr.A sells a thing to Mr.B at a sacrifice.という文では、Mr.A(売り手)がモノをMr.Bに捨て値で売ると説明されています。つまり、at a sacrificeは、(Mr.Aが)犠牲を払って、ほとんど儲けなしに、と理解します。 sell=be purchasedとするならば、Mr.A sells a thing to Mr.B at a sacrifice.は A thing is purchased by Mr.B at a sacrifice .と書き直しできると思います。 そこで、the man who requires you to do so is dearly purchased at a sacrifice.という文に戻りますと、purchasedのあとにby you があると考えます。 すると、犠牲を払う人はthe man であって、you ではないようになってしまうのですが・・・ このthe man は make a friendのa friendのことを言ってるんですよね？ 参考書の訳では「誤ったことをさせようとする人を友達にすることは、高価な犠牲を払うことです」となっていて、犠牲を払うのはyouとされています。 全体として、youに思いやりを持って助言している文章ですから、youが払う犠牲に対して気遣っているとする方が自然ではあるのですが、文の構造上から犠牲を払うのはthe man であると考えたくなります。 何だか頭がこんがらがって来ました(^_^;) どなたか、すっきりした解説をお願い出来ませんか？ そも、at a sacrificeは適当な日本語ではどう言えばいいのでしょうか？
