The humans who have made it their study... ...are few. となっています。 英文のThe humans who have made it their study are few.の部分が意味が分かりません。 英語から日本語にそのまま訳した場合、どのような意味になるのでしょうか？

それ（自然物が生命力をもつこと）を研究対象としたヒトはほとんどいない。 ぼくはアニメ版で「蟲師」は観ていますが，まあ，「夏目友人帳」のように特異体質で物の怪が見え，そのお祓いをする青年のはなしですよね。夏目に比べてあまりにもつまらないので，最初の数回でタイマ録画を解除してしまいました（笑）。いちおう「蟲師」の内容を知りつつこの英訳をみると，誤訳だらけだと思います。ぼくが訳すなら， 「――生来、緑や水、生命を呼ぶ体質とでもいうのか、そういうものを持つ人間が稀にいる」 A few psychics can feel the spirit in plants, water, animals and invisible monsters. He is one of them, and works as a healer.

補足。 欧米人には，東洋の「物の怪」とか「輪廻転生」，「自然物にも霊魂がやどる」，「万物みな兄弟」ふうの概念は希薄です。だから，「蟲師」にも正確な訳はつけず，絵から受けるイメージで勝手なストーリーを創作している可能性があります。 じじつ「学校の怪談」は，米国ではギャグアニメとして吹き替えられているそうですし（Wikipediaによる）。川端康成ならそんなことはしないでしょうが，マンガやアニメは軽く扱われるでしょう。
