No.1の再訪。リプライありがとうございます。 ぼくがとっさに訳したのは，なにかの歌詞で「落ち込んでいないで元気を出せ！」のような用例を覚えていたからです。再度の回答をつけるにあたって念のためウェブ辞書を調べたら，be happy again に「元気を回復する」という訳が書いてありました。ぼくの英語は経験と勘による「ヤクザのけんか剣法」なのですが，たまたま当たりましたね 笑。 『オズの魔法使い』（映画）はぼくも観ていますが，どこにこういうくだりがあったか思い出せません。たぶん，川を泳いで渡ってびしょ濡れになり意気消沈していたが，周りの美しい景色を見ているうちに「元気をとりもどした」。しかし，（魔女の手下によってばらばらに分解された？）案山子のことを思い出したら，ちょっと気が沈んだ。こんな様子の描写なんだろうと思います。 なお，ぼくは almost を故意に訳出していません。これは断定を避けるための挿入であり，「ほとんど」の意味は失っていると思います。ドロシーの気持ちは他人が描写しているのであって，彼女の心理を100パーセント把握しているとはいえない。そんな「引き」の表現法だろうと思います。これも「けんか剣法」なので信用しないでくださいね 笑。

補足。英文の水準からみてあなたは中学生か高校生だと思いますので。 ＞almost を故意に訳出していません 試験答案なら，もちろんちゃんと訳出してくださいね。「この生徒は almost を知らなかったんだな」と先生に解されて減点されるだけです 笑。 これもぼくの経験にすぎませんが，英語人は「日本人なら書かないであろう語」を入れることがよくあります。それを逐語的に和訳すると，「まどろっこしい日本語」になるわけです。これは文化のちがいだろうと思います。逆の操作として，日本語を逐語的に英訳すると「ぶっきらぼうな英語」になりますので，ちょいと味付けが必要になる。言語変換というよりも文化変換というべきかもしれませんね。試験問題ではそんな水準は問いません。

But then she thought of the poor Scarecrow and she felt very sad. 直訳すると、「ドロシーは再びほととんど幸せだった。」となりますが、もっと良い訳し方はありますか？
前後の文脈によるのですが，ぼくの脳裏にとっさに浮かんだイメージ。 「ドロシーは元気をとりもどした」

こんにちは。お世話になります。 英語初学者です。 英文を読んでいたら、以下のような描写が有りました。 １、The girl was dorothy. there was a storm. The wind blew the house away. ２、There was a storm. it was playtime. The children couldn't play outside. 色々と調べてみたのですが、１、２のそれぞれの文でなぜstormをThere を使って表すのかが分かりません。itなどなのではいけないのでしょうか？ stormはrainやwindとは異なり可算名詞扱いなのでしょうか？ また、１番目の文でなぜher houseではなく the house もよく分りません。 どなたか、教えては下さいませんでしょうか？ 宜しくお願いいたします。
