bestについて教えて下さい。
But males do a "best of 5 sets" match whereas females do just three sets. 上記の英文は、テニスについての会話文です。a "best of 5 sets" matchのbestは、最高という意味味ですか？ それとも決勝という意う意味で使われてるのですか？ a "best of 5 sets" matchを翻訳機に掛けると「5セットで最高の」試合とでたのですが？ 教えて下さい。宜しくお願いします。

グランドスラムの男子は５セットマッチ（３セット先取した方が勝ち）、 女子（やグランドスラム大会以外の男子）は３セットマッチ（２セット先取した方が勝ち） というのを表しているわけですが、 best で「過半数のもの」という名詞です。 （以前に、男子も女子も５セットマッチでするグランドスラム以外の大会があったように 記憶していますが...） 普通は the best ～となるのですが、 "best of 5 sets" で一つの名詞のようにして、 a をつけているのだと思います。

テニスの4大大会のことをご存知なら、意味はすぐわかりますよね。男子は1試合5セットからなりますが、3セットを先取したほうが勝ちになるというルールで、このことを言っている。ですから、bestはここでは「最多の」という意味だと理解するとわかりやすいのではないか？意訳すると「男子は5セットのうち最多セットをとったほうが勝ちの試合をおこない・・・」云々。
