This risk occurs because the inflation rates in the domestic and foreign economies are uncertain. If PPP were to hold continuously, the real rate of return on the domestic bonds is given by the nominal interest rate less the expected domestic inflation rate. If the latter is uncertain then so will be the real return on the asset considered. Similarly, the expected real less the expected foreign bonds is given the nominal foreign interest rate less the expected foreign inflation rate , if the latter is also subject to uncertainty then so will be the real return on foreign bonds. If PPP holds continuously and the expected domestic price inflation rate rises, this reduces the expected real rate of return on domestic bonds but does not increase the expected real rate on foreign bonds because the currency will depreciate by the same amount as the expected inflation rate. The risk of holding a domestic bond can therefore be represented as a positive function of the variance in the domestic inflation rate while the risk of holding a foreign bond can be represented as a positive function of the variance of the foreign inflation rate. A greater variance of the expected domestic inflation rate raises the relative riskiness of domestic as compared to foreign bonds and vice-versa.

Physical development Adolescence is often considered to begin with puberty, the appearance of mature sexual characteristics. In girls this is marked by menarche, the onset of menstruation. The average age is about 12^1/2 years , but the normal range is of growth in height and weight begins to increase, reaching a peak about a year before the menarche. The peak rate is the most rapid growth in the postnatal period. Because of its timing, this period of rapid growth is sometimes called the preadolescent growth spurt. In boys there is no striking change analogous to the menarche to mark the beginning of adolescence. However, a growth spurt in height and weight occurs, and its pattern is about the same as in girls except that it is about two years later. Thus, adolescence begins about two years later in boys than in girls. Like girls, boys vary widely in the age at which puberty begins. However, the “average” early-maturing boy begins puberty at about the average normal age for the beginning of puberty in girls. Similarly, the “average” late-maturing girl begins puberty at about the average normal age for boys. Research shows such individuals have few problems in learning to adjust to the opposite sex. The early-maturing boy has the better time of it, though, because he is also a hero to the normally-maturing boys, while the late-maturing girl is not well accepted by normally-maturing girls. In contrast, the early-maturing girl is too far ahead of her classmates of both sexes, and the late-maturing boy too far behind. Both have adjustment problems.

A company enters into an agreement with a firm who will factor the company's accounts receivable. The factor agrees to buy the company's receivables, which average $100,000 per month and have an average collection period of 30 days. The factor will advance up to 80 percent of the face value of receivables at an annual rate of 10 percent and charge a fee of 2 percent on all receivables purchased. The controller of the company estimates that the company would save $18,000 in collection expenses over the year. Fees and interest are not deducted in advance. Assuming a 360-day year, what is the annual cost of financing?
