"more people are hoarding cash rather than depositing it with banks"という文章があったのですが、rather を入れずに、 "more people are hoarding cash than depositing it with banks"と言った場合、ニュアンスとしては違いがあるのでしょうか？ というより文法的に間違いですか？

以下の文のother than 節 はどのように考えればいいのでしょうか？ （歴史と歴史家に関する文章中の一文です） We cannot have the events other than they are. （ジーニアス英和辞書の文例です） The result was quite other than we had expected. 一文目だと形容詞節をまとめると同時に節の中のtheyを受けているような気がします asで似たような構文を見たことがあります 二文目だと形容詞節をまとめると同時に 節の中で名詞として働きexpectedの目的語になっているような気がします 関係詞の働きに似ているような気がします そうすると、どうやら1文目と2文目の用法は根本的に違うのかなと思ったのですが 解説書には同じ構文であると書いてありました しかし、どういう意味かは書いてありませんでした どう考えれば良いのでしょうか？

中学で、まず I'm from Canada. という be from の形を学習しました。 教科書ももう最後…というところになって come from という表現が出てきます。 今まではあまり時間がとれず、「こういう 言い方もあるよ」で流していたんですが、 教科書が変わる前に疑問を晴らしたくて 質問させていただきました。 以前どこかで、どちらかは生まれた国（場所） を伝えて、どちらかは今住んでいるところを 伝えるために使う、みたいな使い分けを教わった んですが、どうも違うようで…。 I'm from Japan. I come from Japan. のニュアンスの違いなど、ありましたら 教えてください。

not so much A as B をよく B rather than Aと書き換えの問題をみかけますが、ニュアンスの違いはあるのでしょうか。また This story is more exciting than interesting.の文を上記の表現を使っても表現できますか。（使えたらニュアンスの違いも教えていただけませんでしょうか？） not so much A as BのA,B のところに名詞や節や句はよくみかけるのですが、形容詞も入るのでしょうか？progressiveの辞書では He was not so much shocked as excited.というように過去分詞を用いたものがありました。AとBの性質が同じ物なら入れるのは可ということでしょうか？

would rather ～ than という表現で質問があります。 「嘘をつくよりはむしろ何も言いたくない」は I would rather say nothing than tell a lie. となります。 これがもし過去についてで、 「嘘をつくよりはむしろ何も言いたくなかった」としたければ I would rather have said nothing thanのあとは have told a lie でしょうか。 それとも tell a lieやtold（過去形） a lieなどでしょうか。 そもそも実際はこのような回りくどい表現などは使いませんか？ I prefered saying nothing to telling a lie. だとスマートですが、今から後悔しているwould ratherと過去の感情であるpreferedではニュアンスに違いがあるかと思い困っています。

No more than というのは、「わずかに」とか「たった」という認識で間違いないでしょうか。 だとするとこの文章は、 「1つの章をわずか一晩で読むべきだ」 みたいな意味になるのでしょうか……？ チンタラしてないでさっさと読めよ、みたいな……？ ちなみにアメリカの成功哲学の書籍なのですが、 前後の文脈としては It is a textbook on individual achievement that came directly from the experiences of hundreds of America's most successful men. It should be studied, digested, and meditated upon. No more than one chapter should be read in a single night. The reader should underline the sentences which impress him most. Later, he should go back to these marked lines and read them again. です。 ニュアンスとしては繰り返し熟読するように勧めているはずだとは思うのですが。 アドバイスよろしくお願い致します。
