(I) couldn't be better. で「最高だよ」 Nothing could be farther from the truth (than this idea). これほど誤った考えはない。 こういう比較級はわかりにくいものです。 単なる not/never ～じゃなく，比較級であることがミソです。 than ～がない場合，自明なので普通は「今あるより」です。 couldn't be better であれば，今よりよいことなどあり得ないだろう， すなわち，今が最高の状態，よりよくなり得ない状態が今です。 下の例も，今ある考えより，真実から離れているものなどあり得ない。 だから，これが最も誤りだ。 主語が the future であることと，時制は関係ありません。 今から未来（the future）を展望する。 あくまでも今の時点で「未来はどうなんだ」 あるいは「今まで（ずっと）」未来はどんなふうな展望だったか いつの時にも未来の展望というのは考えられ， それを the future is ～であったり，the future has been ～ という表現で表すことができます。 そういう各ときどきで，アメリカの将来の状態が存在し， has never been more closely linked ～ということであれば， 「今まで，より密接につながっていることはなかった」 ここで比較されているのは the future という主語について， 他の主語と比べているわけではなく，おっしゃるように than の後も the future という主語でいいのですが， そういう未来の展望が今どうなのか（than the future is closely linked to ～） と比べて，これまでのことが has never been more ～ 「より密接であったことはない」 だから，今，将来の展望が最も密接だ， と言っているのです。 私の考えで間違いないですので，しっくりこないというのなら 私の説明が下手でご理解いただいていない，ということです。

授業でDriving is more difficult [because of・in Japan・in the United States・on・than・the hevy traffic・narrow streets]. 日本では狭い道路に交通が激しいため、自動車の運転はアメリカより難しい。 括弧内を並べ替えよという問題がありました。 正解はDriving is more difficult in Japan than in the United states because of the hevy traffic on narrow streets.ですが、 比較の対象を文末に置いた Driving is more difficult in Japan because of the heavy traffic on narrow streets than in United states. この文は文法的に間違いでしょうか？ 正解の方が、読みやすい文だとは思いますが、解説お願いいたします。
