Peril to で始まる文の構造
The Mysterious Affair at Stylesを読んでいますが、Poirotのセリフでわからないところがあるので教えてください。 "Beware! Peril to the detective who says: 'It is so small -- it does not matter. It will not agree. I will forget it.' That way lies confusion! Everything matters." そのうちPeril で始まる文は、「～なんて言う探偵はあぶないですよ」というような訳がついているようなのですが、perilの品詞や省略されているものがあるのかなど、よくわかりません。toがついているので、探偵にとって危険だ、と言っているように感じてしまうのですが、それでは意味が通らないので、わからなくなってしまいました。 よろしくお願いします。

X to Y と言う公式で、X は上げるもの、Y はそれを受け取る人です。 ですから Good luck to you なら、「幸運をあなたに」 peril to the detecgtive なら、「ひどい目をその探偵に」です。 「気をつけなさい、『それは小さいことだから心配ない、』と言う探偵はひどい目に遭いますよ。私はそういう考えには同意しません。私は忘れます。そういう方向に混乱が起こるのです。すべてが大切なのです（＝些細だから大切でない、なんて物はありません）」 最後のところ、オックスフォード出の僕の梵語の先生の That way lies an F.「あの方向に落第点がある」（＝そんなことをしてると落第だぞ）という言葉を思い出します。

気をつけなさい。こんなことを言う探偵には危険が見舞いますぞ。「それはとても小さなことだ。どうでもいいよ。つじつまは合わないけど、ぼくは忘れることにする」とかね。そんなふうにして、物事が紛れていくのです。どうでもいい事など何もありませんぞ。 (There'll be) peril to the detective... のような含意ではないでしょうか。
