英文の訳を教えてください。
英文の訳を教えてください。 英語史の教科書の"do"の用法の部分を読んでいます。 ""内は教科書ではイタリック体で書いてあります。 Thus we say "I do not know" but "I will not agree to it". 「それゆえに、われわれは"I do not know"と言うが、 "I will not agree to it"とも言うのだ」 と訳したのですが、 but以下は「""とも言うのだ」なのか、「""とは言わない」なのか悩んでいます。 この前の文では助動詞doは一般的に本動詞とともに使われるのが普通で 助動詞と共には用いられない、という記述になっています。 わかる方教えてください。よろしくお願いします。

Thus we say "I do not know" but "I will not agree to it". 「それゆえに"I do not know" と言うが"I will not agree to it" と言うのだ」 ではないでしょうか。 つまり、 ＞この前の文では助動詞doは一般的に本動詞とともに使われるのが普通で 助動詞と共には用いられない、という記述になっています。 ですから、"I will do not agree to it" とは言わずに"I will not agree to it"となるんだ、ということですね。助動詞 will があるために、do は使われないんだということです。

「""とも言うのだ」いう解釈は自分には全くありませんでした。 一般的にbutは、"not A but B"「AではなくBである」と同様に、前の部分で否定（あるいは肯定）したことに反した内容をbut以下で言うのだと思います。あるいは、"but (we don't say)"が省略されていると考えてもいいかもしれません。このように、butが付くと、肯定であれば否定、否定であれば肯定・・といった文が後に続くことを思わせると思います。 なので、順当に受け取れば、 「われわれは"I do not know"と言うが"I will not agree to it"とは言わない」 か、もっと自然に言うなら、 「われわれは"I will not agree to it"ではなく"I do not know"と言う」 が妥当なのではないかと。

i will agree to 160.00 as long as you do not mind sending it as a "gift" through pay pal so i dont get charged the pay pal fees to receive. i am not 100% sure the amount of sending certified will be ...i cant imagine it being more than $15.00 total including shipping costs/weight....if more than that i will let you know.....but i will make sure its insured so we have no problems.
